On a somewhat related note. I was talking to a sales associate at total hockey today and he said that after the first or second shipment of new model year sticks, Bauer simply repaints the previous model year to look new and ships them out to retail stores. (...?) He said hes taken the top layer of paint off Bauer sticks maybe 7 or 8 months after their release to find the paint job of the previous model year.

Has anyone encountered this?

That doesn't really make any sense, all of Bauer's top end retail sticks you can clearly see the carbon fiber outer layer through the paint, where would they "hide" the old graphics? Old graphics would overlap with new ones...sounds like that sales associate had a bad case of "talkingoutofhisass-itis".

I made this ad. A teammate of mine picked up two of them and eventually hassled the seller to get his money back once I saw the s2k thread on them; he threatened legal action. More awareness is required. I got an email from a mother who said she almost bought one for her son. This is the main reason I made the ad as I feel people who are into pro stock gear would be able to determine the legitimacy of a stick on their own.

Good on you for making that post. I also found this: http://vancouver.en.craigslist.ca/rch/spo/4581174106.html. I'm positive these are fakes too.

All of these fake MX3s posted with the Backstrom curve... can anyone chime in about this but is there any chance the REAL retail ones coming out will have "Backstrom P92" instead of "Ovechkin P92"?

Found a fake one at my local rink tonight with a broken blade in the garbage can.

Nxg LH p92 87 flex

Compared it to an actual retail one

Uncanny, could barely tell the difference.

Has the weird raised fake tac spiral grip and the warranty stick font was not right and was smudged.

Weight was identical, all other graphics identical. Would never have known really.

I live in Vancouver where these have been popping up

Yup. Lots in Vancouver. I'd suggest you make a craigslist ad as well and let all of your friends/teammates know.
