2013-14 Montreal Canadiens Thread (previous Training Camp)

They've already sent Louis back to Hamilton...I'm kinda surprised. I figured he'd be a long look this year at Camp. One of the final cuts/decisions.

I was just coming to say the same thing. Twitter/Reddit/Facebook (Social media in general)....any time you (or they) can post your feelings/thoughts for everyone to see before you have time to calm down and react rationally...is a bad thing!

I got a question for you habs fans. What happened to the statues in the plaza before you get inside the arena? Also the Habs logo statue. I took a picture with it a couple years ago and I see its gone.

The whole centennial plaza is being moved and the habs are building condos in that area.

That Parros injury looked scary. He threw a big punch as Orr fell...they both went down and with no way to prevent it, he went face first into the ice. Hopefully he makes a full recovery.

Hate losing to the Leafs...but on the plus side, Lars Eller is on pace for 246 points.

bad news for george. talked to him a couple of times in the locker room and he's a great guy, shame he'll be out. the sad part is that falling after a fight is how he hurt his rotator cuff last year in the first place.

A few notes on the lineup so far:

Bourque-Plekanec-Gionta: Plays in all situations, most likely to be matched up against the other team's top line (JVR-Bozak-Kessel tonight. Maybe not as much finish as the other two offensive lines, but can get the puck out of the defensive zone and create chances on the other end.

Pacioretty-Desharnais-Briere: The go-to line for offensive zone faceoffs and PPs.

Galchenyuk-Eller-Gallagher: Another line that can score. Galchenyuk and Gallagher won't play much on special teams (Eller on the PK occasionally), so they might end up being under-used in games with a lot of PIMs (like tonight, even though Eller was terrific)

Moen-Prust-White/Bournival/Parros: Fourth line that can hit/fight/agitate.

If the Plekanec line can eat up a lot of minutes against the other teams' best players, then lines 2 and 3 can play often against weaker competition. Over the course of a season, those little advantages would add up in the Habs' favor.

Ugh. Paxioretty has a knee injury (not sure of the timetable)...Prust out 4 weeks with a shoulder injury...Murray is another 3-4 away, Emelin is not going to be ready until Dec/Jan. Briere and Parros both concussed...who knows when they come back. Drewiskie is pretty much done (5-6 months if I recall) So, not only are the Habs getting banged up, but Blunden and Holland just got called up from Hamilton...so that hurts the AHL side as well.

Could end up being a long year!

Tinordi sent to Hamilton. I thought he had been playing pretty well in Montreal...but I guess they have enough bodies on D right now, that they don't want him sitting and (other than Beaulieu) there really aren't any options of guys to sit to get him into games. I hope Syl pairs him with Nygren. That's a great Grit/Skill pair. And, it's not like Tinordi can't add some offense as well.

Do they usually try to put a guy in the same role he would be in if he were in Montreal or do they expect them to play differently when they are down?

Depends....Defencemen seem to stay to a role in Montreal or Hamilton...whereas forwards get put into roles they may nto be familiar with (at the pro level). Gallagher was one of the first call ups in recent memory to go from a first line role in Hamilton to a First line role in Montreal. Usually, the call ups get 3rd/4th line roles and that's why they have struggled. Holland/Blunden are more capable to be checkers than LeBlanc is...that's why they got the call this time.

BTW...Louis looked fantastic last night (FINALLY!!!!). 1G 2A in a 5-4 OT win v. Rockford.

Pateryn got called up last night. Funny actually. We had a staff skate after work....so I get to the room and one of the Communications Dept guys is sitting there, fully geared up with his laptop. I said "you still working" He goes, "Yeah, waiting for the Habs to make it official so I can send our Press Release saying Pateryn is up"

The mystique of pro sports is gone! hahaha

Love that signing.Him and Murray together should make playing in the Habs zone unpleasant.

Starting to get healthy now... Pax and Parros will both play this weekend and AE is ahead of schedule. Expecting a return before the end of the month.

Bournival has earned his spot. I don't see them sitting him. I suspect Blunden back to Hamilton to make room for Parros. Actually surprised we haven't seen that yet. As long as Moen is hurt, no need for further moves to make room for Pax. But once he's back and Prust/Briere are ready to go....they've got make some moves. If they keep LeBlanc up and sit him...they might as well send him to Hamilton. Moen/White could sit...or maybe we see someone like Bourque or Desharanias go somewhere for a draft pick...or for someone who will play in Hamilton (for now)

Yes please. And while they're at it they should also get rid of Moen or maybe even Diaz if they can get a decent return for him

Price looked great in the shutout of Carolina the other night....Budaj (and everyone really) looked great against Boston tonight.Hopefully that 5 game skid is a memory and they can gt back near the Top of the East.

Cant go wrong when you put 46 pucks on net.

(For those who didint watch: habs down 4-1 vs sens with 3 minutesleft. Ties the game with 0.4 seconds left. Wins it in OT)

Shot differentials trending up in a big way in recent games. Good signs.

What a crazy game, montreal had no business getting points after failing to capitalize on their 1st period chances.
