Easton Mako M5 Shin Pads vs Other Shin Pads?

Recommended Posts

For quite some time I've been set on getting the Easton Mako M5 Shin Pads, but I would like to see what you guys think of these, and if you have any other suggestions. Easton's Synergy line has me curious, especially the HSX, which is a little out of my price range, but I'm still interested in them. I've looked at the Bauer Supreme One.8 pads as well. Nothing from Reebok interests me except their 20k shin pads, but those are definitely out of my price range unfortunately.

I have the Mako shin pads and absolutely love them. Can't say enough good things about them. Great comfort, thigh wrap, protection, the flexible knee is awesome, strapping is great. I haven't seen anything else out there even close to as comfortable.

That's what I saw on the reviews as well, but I just wanted to double check and make sure. Do you have the M5's or the original Mako shin pads that are $120?

I have the M5s for the better part of the past year, best shin pads I've ever used. I was in CCM U12s and Vapor X 5.0s prior to them and the mobility and protection between the M5s is substantially better than those 2. They're not the slimmest nor the lightest pads out there but I mean they go on your legs so even a few extra ounces shouldn't matter that much. They do well to block against shots and protect against falls.

I have the Makos. I think they are a great shin guard with mobility being the key benefit. I have taken a few hard slap shots in the lower portion of the shin protection that have left me a little sore. I play defense usually so i'm in the line of fire alot but for a forward these are pretty effective. Tried the Bauer APX2s, they basically suck. In hindsight i wish i would have spent the $40 more for the Reebok 20ks but the Makos do their job so i'll stay with them for now
