How to kindly turn away players on your team

Recommended Posts

I agree with others.

Are you trying to move the team up a division?

If no, and if those guys are in the right division, they stay.

Adult recreational sports are for fun and friendship. It's not the NHL.

I'm on an ice hockey team where half the team could move up, but half need to stay where they are at due to a lower skill level We have some players that aren't superstars and do not do much other than whack the puck anywhere they can when it comes near them. No one would ever dare to ask them to leave the team.

As long as you are having fun! That's the purpose of these leagues. For people to play a sport they love, be social, have laughs, etc. I love hockey!

You will be cursed and not sleep well if you cut nice folks just because they cannot skate. You do not cut nice guys, that is simple truth. We added a ringer that played for the gophs for a tourney all he did was yell at us. We were worse with him.

we had to cut a couple of people a while back because half the team was going to leave and go play somewhere else. we did this to jump up a division. one took it pretty hard and won't say anything to me whenever i see him at the rink and the other is okay with it and says hello whenever i see him around at pick up and stuff.

Bring in potential replacements and make it clear to the whole team that everyone is playing for a spot on the team. Worst case scenario, these players are weeded out. Best case scenario it lights a fire under them and they find the desire to improve.
