Nexus 1000 or try a DT1 LT?

Recommended Posts

I want to switch my curve, and will buy a clearance top-line stick to try it out. I currently have a Nexus 1000 77 P92L5, and I'm pretty happy with it. My shot is as good as it's ever been. But that's likely a product of a lot of practice on my technique and lowering the flex to 77, so I can't say it's all because of the stick. And that's where I'm torn.

I want to switch to P88 and have come down to these two options to try it out (I tried it at the Bauer Expo at my local rink, and it was great). My game should be more suited to a low-kick stick. I take mostly quick wrist or snap shots off the toe of the stick. I also don't have a hard push down on the stick when I shoot, so I don't load the stick well. So I find that if I don't have the time to load the stick, the puck flutters. I play defense, so the low kick point should be better for quick passes as well. But before the Nexus 1000, I was using an APX2 87, and it just wasn't right. The puck felt dead off my stick, it never had any velocity on it. The Nexus 1000 87 that I have is similar though, so it really may be a function of not enough flex.

So what do you guys think? Should I stay with the Nexus 1000 77 that I know works well or should I try a DT1LT 75 (or even 70int) that may be better? Thanks in advance.

Can't give you advice on the performance of the Dt1 LT but I can say that depending on how tall you are, the intermediate could be a good bet. My brother picked up one for himself and it was surprisingly tall. It looked like it was only an inch smaller than uncut bauer sticks.

I have been using the Nexus 1000 though, and it does play a softer than my other sticks, ( RBZ Stage 2, NXG, Mako) because of the flex profile. Going to a super low kick stick like the DT1 LT could be a tough transition as most low kick sticks tend to player slightly stiffer than the mid kicks. Which is where the Intermediate 70 flex DT1 LT could come into play. Sorry I couldn't give you a good answer as I have only used the Nexus 1000 so take that advice as it is.

I decided to just go with the Nexus since it was what I knew and was already changing the curve. Don't change too many things at once. I figured I could find a DT1LT much cheaper later if I liked the curve. The Nexus 1000 in P88 is much harder to find. Now when I'm trying to add it to my cart, it won't show up. So this all have been moot, since the store may not have really had the Nexus to being with.

If you shoot off the toe I would suggest staying away from the P88. Shooting on the ice while on skates and in motion vs at your local store standing stationary is very different. The P88 toe isn't very round and the blade isn't very rockered. I used the P88 for my last 3 twigs before switching to an E28.

I've tried both, liked the Nexus a lot more than the DT1 LT which is strange because I usually prefer lower kickpoint sticks. The DT was too blade heavy for me.

On a side note, this may be luck so take it for what its worth but the Nexus was a tank durability wise. I was hit square on the shaft with a couple shots and it just kept going.

Thanks. It was an on ice demo of the new Bauer gear, so I was able to skate and shoot with the curve (though not exactly the right stick or at full speed). I was actually amazed how natural the P88 felt to me. The stick was too stiff so the shots lacked pop (just like my 87 flex did) but they were accurate and were more solid than my P92L5. Elevating the puck was a little more difficult, but that was to be expected with the closed toe and stiffer flex. A little practice and I'm sure it would get better. Stick handling was much improved with the P88, especially on the backhand.

Great! Thanks. I'm going to go with the Nexus, even though I might have to bite the bullet and pay full price for an 8000.

Im currently using the Nexus 1000 and the DT1 LT in 77 and 75 flex, I bought them at the same time, they are both great, I use them both but I keep going back to the Bauer, to me the Warrior feels a bit more blade heavy and also less stiff in the blade, the warrior is also a bit heavier in general, but these are minor complaints, I like the 75 flex of the Warrior, it is a noticeably softer flex than the Bauer and great for snap shots, I'd reccomend getting one of each
