Bauer Vapor Skate choice

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

I'm looking for new skates and I prefer to stay with the Vapor line because I use them right now and the fit well (currently Vapor XII for icehockey and Vapor RX3 for inlinehockey).

After some research I have narrowed down the selection to the X90, X80 or X7.0.

As my local dealer has none of them I have some questions and would really appreciate if somebody could comment.

1. Do they all fit the same or are there some serious differences?

2. I read in this forum that the X7.0 is equal to the X90. The X7.0 is approx. 50€ = 63$ cheaper than the X90 but I would need to order it from Germany (I'm living in Austria). Is it worth the stress (in case there is something wrong with the skates, shipping back and forth.....) or is it the same skate with just a new color?

to help you with a judgement: I'm playing in a quite competitive beer league and skate twice a week from September to mid of April.

I have Vapor XXV's (about 7 years old). This past year I tried on X90 and X100s and found the fit to be different. The boot felt larger in all dimensions at the same length as my current skates. Volume was a bit more, boot was a bit wider overall and even the length of actual boot seemed longer. I was very surprised at how they did not fit well. Mako's ended up fitting me much better. It could have been I needed to go down a half size, but I'm not really a fan of correcting width or volume by decreasing length.

I have the XXXX, x:60 and the x7.0, and I feel that they all fit the same (note: the XXXX did fit different than the XXX and the previous Vapor models). From what I've heard the X90 should also fit the same.

Don't forget you'll have to get those skates baked, and I wouldn't suggest using your oven; Having them baked is going to cost you something at your local hockey shop if you didn't buy the skates there. So I'd say go with your local shop, have them bake them for you (for free if you buy there) and enjoy good service every time you need something done (replaced eyelets, rivets, you name it).

Cheers from a fellow Austrian.

Comparing the X7.0 and X90, I prefer the newer style tongue on the X90. The Form Fit 2 tongue on the X7.0 was too thin and stiff IMO.

Yeah the tongue and detachable steel are the only differences as far as I know. I use x7.0 and love them, best skates I have ever had. Used them for two seasons and they still look quite new. Tanks.

I had the Vapor XXXX and the X:60. The X:60 had a much narrower toe box and forefoot. I loved the XXXX's, but had to sell my Vapor X:60 because they were too narrow for my foot.
