Restoring old hockey skates

Recommended Posts

Hi there

So, last night, after 20+ years of pestering... I got my dad to part with his Bauer Supreme Custom 2000s (from like 1990... whatever year the first Formfit tongue was)

They felt great, but need an edge. They have new holders (installed 10 years ago and used little after) and new steel (also installed at the same time)

The skates themselves are a little dull looking though. The leather is stained, the nylon on the outside is a bit worn. The badge on the back is cracked.

I'd like to clean them up and restore them as much as possible. At least shine them up a bit...

Any recommendations for this in terms of products?

interested to see how this thread pans out, my dad still rocks the old bauer 2000s as well and i've got some 4000s and Air90s I might try to do some restoration on at some point.

pfffffft.

think much older.

My guess is either 1989 or 1992.

They're the first Formfit tongues offered by Bauer.

These are Canstar branded as well.

Yes, circa 1990-94 is more reasonable; sorry severe brain cramp

I would guess 1989 or 90. My dad wears that exact same skate, still (had them since new).

I believe I got my first pair of 4000s lightly used in 1994 or 1995.

would it be stamped anywhere in them?

Also, you're like the 10th guy to tell me "Hey, my dad still has those!"

This was apparently our dad's skate of choice

maybe on that stamp on the inside of the tendon guard? might just have size there though, and it usually wears away but your dad's look lightly used so maybe still visible? (i will look at my other BNIB canstar skates tonight and see if i can find an MFR date anywhere, i have 2 pairs sitting around still in boxes and one barely used).

Those aren't mine. they're just similar.

I'll take a look tonight. Got my first game with them sharp tonight.

Tried them last week dull and they were good, but not great. now sharpened and with new Superfeet in them, should be a lot better
