Mid Kick vs Low Kick for Juniors

Recommended Posts

My son is currently using a Bauer Vapor X90 stick with 50 Flex, but after the Bauer Days we attended in the fall, he has been asking for a Nexus stick.

I know most say the feel of the stick is more than the marketing, but was a little worried that a mid kick stick may not be what an 11 year old should be using, does anyone have some experience with this?

Also any positive recommendations on the new CCM line as well? if we are gonna buy his a new one, all options are on the table.

Thanks,

Dave

Heya,

My son turned 11 in September and he moved up from a Junior EK15 to a Nexus 8000 Intermediate 60 flex stick, he absolutely loves the feel of the stick. He also got a CCM Intermediate Superfast in 60 flex but prefers the Nexus stick for puck feel and overall play. He is a little bigger then most 11 year olds as he is 5ft 5 and plays D, so he does take alot of slapshots. He does prefer the Nexus over the EK15 and CCM Superfast and chooses to use it most practices and games.

My daughter went from a low-kick Covert DT1 LT to a mid-kick CCM Tacks this year and the difference was quite noticeable. Her shot just seems to have more pop. In my observations, kids are less prone to drop that hand to take advantage of a lower kick point, so a mid-kick seems to pop for them better. Now, neither of them are bad sticks, the DT1 is a great stick. She just couldn't take advantage of the flex point. Also worth nothing that the DT1 is a 40 flex and she is getting more flex from the 50 flex Tacks.
