Skate moving like a fish on ice

Recommended Posts

Hi!

I recently got Bauer Supreme One.6 skates for a bargain. They were supposed to be my backup blades 'cos my Mission 120XP skates are getting soft.

I got them profiled and sharpened, (dont remember the numbers of profile). Our trainer said that there is no problems on the runners.

But like the topic says I am having troubles. My right foot is kinda wiggeling on ice, Small vibrations everytime when there is not much weight on the foot.

Left is great, but right is bad.

Retailer took a look and said that skates ain't giving troubles, that its the skater.

Any ideas?

(sorry if my writing doesent make sense, not my native language. Wii, first post)

Get them sharpened one more time, your issue will likely go away.

They have been sharpened twice allready. First before first skate, then after my complaint to my sharener (is that right?).

Do I need to get them sharpened third time?

I think Jimmy is implying that the first sharpen wasn't thorough enough to get a good consistent edge with the proper hollow. Not uncommon on a first sharpen if the sharpener doesn't take the extra time to properly get the hollow established. It takes quite a few more passes on a previously unsharpened blade.

If you are confident that your sharpener has a good hollow on them, next I would look at the blade straightness. It could be that the blade on one skate is a bit curved. That can be fixed by a good sharpener with the right tools. It could be that the blade is bent or that the holder is bent because it isn't mounted right.

Exactly. No boot causes that symptom, it's either the edges aren't there or bent blade. Bent blades wont grab even if the sharpening is perfect. OP, put a ruler alongside the blade, if you see light between the blade and the ruler it's bent, most likely from a mismounted holder.

I've seen a lot of alignment issues on Bauer skates that my friends have purchased lately. That could very easily contribute to the problems that you have.

My last two pairs have had misalligned holders and both have been top of the line bauer models so that would be a good place to look first

I also had misaligned holders on some Supremes bought in March. Not the same problem the OP is having, but getting to the outside edge on one skate simply wouldn't work. I also couldn't hold a one foot glide on the same skate, as it felt like the blade was not straight along the path of travel (like it was skidding slightly). After getting a new pair (RBZ80s), I had no problems, so it was concluded that the holder wasn't aligned (the blades had been checked and seemed to be fine).

are your mission boots sharpened by the same guy?

Yes, same guy has been sharpening my skates. Thats why I dont remember the details of my blades, cos he knows them. :D
