Nexus 8000 Break In

Recommended Posts

So I bought some Nexus 8000s this week and have used them 2 times so far. My previous skates were Bauer Total ones size 8.5 D that I had for about 2 years. The Total Ones had been putting pressure on my ankles because of an improper fit. My ankles come farther foward toward the eyelet area and all the foam around that area had been totally pressed down making it very painful. When I went to the store to buy new skates, I tried on the MX3 skates and they had the same issue. After trying on almost every skate in the store, I finally picked the Nexus 8000 size 8D. They felt amazing in the store but once I used them on the ice, I could feel my toes wedged up against the toe box. I have come to the conclusion that I bought a half a size too small.

My question is will these skates stretch at all lengthwise during the break in period? If not, what are my options? Is boot stretching possible with a composite boot ?

Your feet will settle back a tiny amount as you break in the padding around the base of your ankle. If your toes are crushed against the ends, that is something you should have felt when initially trying on unbaked skates in the store.

When standing my big toe is just grazing the end but my other toes are pushing against the toecap. When sitting I can feather the toe cap with every toe except for my big toe. Not really sure how this happened. I didn't notice this when walking around in the store. Thanks for the replies though, hopefully they will settle back.

for some people, using superfeet insole will prevent your feet from spreading out and flattening so you could gain a little room up front with the insoles if you don't already use them.

for me, the difference from the stock insole to superfeet is about 1/4 of an inch... the superfeet giving me an additional 1/4 inch space

Can try a rebake to see if your heel will sit further back and pull your toes of the toecap. Feet can change quite a bit over the course of the day which is why it's best to try on and purchase skates later in the day.

Yeah guess I learned the hard way... Purchased the skates in the morning. I'll try baking again. Just wanted to see if the skates would naturally break in and lengthen.

I found this with the new nexus 8000 as well. When sitting an 8 seems perfect, nice and snug, standing and bending at the knees a bit my toes get pushed further into the cap instead of being pulled back. I also kicked my heel back to make sure it was back all the way. In the end I personally was an 8.5.
