Yeah if you want to share the name of that LHS so we can avoid it like the plague. That would be great.

The following was published by the LHS that is the distributor for Bauer. There are really only 2 LHS's in our country so it is pretty easy to work out who this is about for those that want to know. If it is happening in our country, which would be one of the smallest markets around, you can be damn sure it is happening in larger markets like the US / Canada etc. The tips provided are a helpful start to identifying fake sticks but I've seen some of these fake Bauer sticks where the graphics are near on perfect. Bauer also puts identifiers on the inside of the stick which I haven't seen the copy manufacturers produce yet. I don't know about Easton and if they mark their sticks elsewhere other than the outside graphics / logos etc. Note the distributor will help you check a stick to see if it is fake or not, I don't know if you have access to such a service and if not then maybe it is time for stick manufacturers / distributors / LHS's to think hard about supplying this type of service.

Counterfeit sticks on the New Zealand Market

It has come to our attention that there is a local retailer selling counterfeit sticks to hockey players throughout New Zealand. We at Centre Ice are the national distributor for Bauer and Easton products so If you feel you may have bought a counterfeit stick, you can give us a call and we can help you out. However, there are a few signs to look for when purchasing a stick to tell if it is counterfeit or not.

The images below are of a stick recently purchased by us from a retailer in New Zealand. There was never any mention that the stick may be a fake or that there would be any problems with it. The stick is claimed to be a Bauer Totalone NXG stick and Bauer hockey in Sweden have confirmed this is a counterfeit stick, made in China.

Picture 1: The letters 'One NXG' are not lined up correctly with the shaft of the stick. Also the imperfections in the finishing work

Picture 2: This is the barcode from a fake stick. More often than not, the barcode on the stick will not match the stick it is on. If you are unsure, send us the barcode number and we can check for you.

Picture 3: Major imperfections around the top of the shaft. This is not up to Bauer's quality standard. It also pays to look at the colour of the stick as it is often not a perfect match to a legitimate stick.

Picture 4: Information showing the product's patent numbers. These numbers often dont line up with Bauer's patent numbers

Picture 5: Material description numbers. If you are unsure about your sticks authenticity, send us a photo of these numbers and we will be able to help you out.

This stick in these photos is a counterfeit stick purchased from the retailer in New Zealand selling chinese fakes. If you or somebody you know has purchased a fake stick, under the impression that the stick was legitimate, you are more than entitled to your money back and you should be in touch with the retailer you purchased it from.
