NHL.com today has a nice video of Edge runner being popped out by a shot

How do you feel about how well they hold the edge? The Fusion steel is terrible. Coming from BlackEdge and I have to sharpen twice as often, and could use it 3x if I wanted to. Is the LS4 a better edge? Or how about even just LS3 for that matter?

I think the LS4 has a better edge, but hardening steel for better edges can make the stainless more brittle. It's a little early to say for sure, but to see 2 broken ones already makes you think, especially since the LS2/3's have been very durible, albeit not so great edges. I think a great alternative is the Blackedge coated LS2/3 edges, the coating really makes them as good as your old Blackedges.

Cool. Thanks, jimmy. Is there any kind of warranty from Bauer on cracked steel? BlackEdge coated Edge runners are insanely expensive. I'd take a shot on LS4 if Bauer would pay for replacement steel in the case of premature breakage.

I thought it was 90 days? OR is that just the holder?

90 days on boot and steel. 1 year on the holder still.

Saw another pop out the other night in Tampa/Rangers game.

I thought of this topic as soon as I saw it.They called it a broken blade but it looked intact to me.

The EDGE holder works well in my opinion. Several of my customers have an extra set of runners that are 'tuned up' and always ready to swap out. So important when competitive players are out of town and out of touch with your skate tech. In some instances, they have the sets of steels sharpened at different ROH's. eg. 5/8 inch ROH and 7/8 inch ROH. That way, if they run into softer ice when on the road, they can switch out. Also, have a customers who will have me change a profile or a pitch on an extra set of steels. That way they (or their budding superstar kids) can easily try out a change on open ice, or practices. Works well.

No question that changing steels is so much quicker and effective in a game situation than a skate removal on the bench. Worked well for me in Halifax last spring when players 'lost' their edges during a game. Back on the ice without missing a shift!!!

MAKE SURE that the blade is securely POPPED in when replacing. I use the RUBBER coated handle of a small hammer to tap the blade after hearing the 'click' and SEEING the very small "D" appear on the trigger. A good practice for equipment managers (or any skate tech, is to use a pair of those SMALL Vice Grips to pull out the rear of the blade. The small (Mickey Mouse) tool provided by Bauer is a toy in a game situation, with a slippery steel and holder.
