Hockey Goal (for outdoor use)

Recommended Posts

Looking to get a hockey goal for use by my Squirt and PeeWee-aged kids in the driveway and basement. I'm looking at the 2" tubing options from Reebok, EZ Goal and another called 'The Beast'. I realize these won't live forever, as the kids start shooting harder and dinging the posts. But, I'm looking for the 5 year solution that can be moved as needed.

Anyone willing to chime in on which may be the better choice? Or will this style all be very similar in longevity?

You are going to need one made for a rink. Check with the rink equipment supply houses, Murray Sandler near Boston is one of them. Not cheap, but will last 5 yrs, none of the retail ones will.

Maybe you need net though, I DIYed just a goal frame only for several years ago. It was used plane pipe and corner. All amount was roughly 130$, probably.

I know the one my kids use...Was second hand...from another family. We've had it 4 or 5 years. I can tell you it is starting to spot rust and the paint has faded. One thing to look at is many Regulation nets are very deep and some of the lesser nets are a little shallower...which is handy when space is limited. Our net came with a net face that had the corner pockets. We have this fastened with small bungee cords and this allows for a lively rebound off the net face...so in a sense it becomes a rebounder.

I would think the slightly smaller than regulation goal net would be ideal if your getting this for a shooter. If you have a goalie, then maybe not.

If you look at the Sherwood Catalog from a few years back...you see a young Marty Broaduer using a small street net...which was very common back in the day.

I've have one of the EZ goals for almost 3 years and it's still going strong. I keep it in the shed so it doesn't stay outside year-round. The fact that it folds flat and is regulation size is the best thing going.

Get the Winnwell Pro 72" goal. Its pricey at $200 but its so much better than the EZ goal as long as your not transporting it. I had the ez goal before this net and i dented the shit outta the post and crossbar plus the netting wasn't as strong i had a couple holes develop. Ive been using the Winnwell for about 6-7 months and the post just get black marks no dents and the netting is strong.

I've owned the EZ Goal for about 3-4 years now and it is still going strong.

This year I picked up the Sniper's Edge shooting tarp and I'd say I prefer this over a standard net because it's easier to set up/take down and you don't have to be worried about stray pucks hitting anything once they bounce off the posts.

Ordered a legit goal, myself. Cost over $1200 for the setup below and about 40+ hours worth of labor. Well worth the money if you're serious. Damn shame that I had to move to an apartment a year ago and haven't been able to use it. Just sits in storage.

Had the net NHL spec'd with the exception of slightly less depth to make it easier to retrieve pucks, but otherwise a fully functional and durable goal(sucker is heavy too, weighs 120lbs)! I also shot off a piece of plexiglass that I got for free from a local rink... Mimics the ice pretty well, but maybe a tad bit on the slicker side.
