Why don't Bauer skates fit me right?

Recommended Posts

I wear an 8.5 shoe.  Vapors, forget it.  Supreme 6.5 are decent length wise, but my instep eyelets 4-7 my foot is busting out the boot.  Size 7 instep is better but then way too long.  Nexus 6.5 too shallow as well.

weird thing is jetspeed size 6 is great depth wise and decent in all other aspects.

Really wanted the new s180's.

Pretty weird. My foot sticks out of jetspeeds but looks good in Nexus as far as instep goes. What is your arch and pronation situation? CCM toebox is more accommodating for longer big toe, so if your big toe is much longer than others, this can be why you can get away with smaller size in CCM lines, although Bauer toebox is also deeper in the big toe area.

I have a normal arch.  Not sure on pronation.  How do you know if you have an issue.  I may have to take it back about nexus.  Been a minute since I tried them on.  So really, jetspeed 6 good.  Supreme/nexus 6.5 not good.

Look at a pair of your shoes that you have worn a lot from the rear. If the outside of the heel is more worn than the inside then you have a degree of over pronation, how much is something that needs to be measured by a professional such as a podiatrist etc. Minor wear is generally fine, if you see a lot of wear then you might want to consider seeing a foot specialist.

Pronation is a natural thing, it is when it is excessive or you pronate when you should supinate during the gait cycle that it then needs to be looked at.

I think your feet are fine. One other thing that some overlook is to lace the skates up tight before judging the length. Bauer skates use deep-v style heel pocket which depends on front lacing to push the foot back. JetSpeed heel-lock is done from the sides and foot can get to the back further  without lacing, although lacing will gain another quarter size. So if you did not lace up and tight up, you might be comparing apples and oranges. At a very least you need to kick the heel and actively force your foot bacwards. I would definitely favor jetspeeds though if you can fit in them, it is like the only skate today that is designed for a better fit.

I just went from Vapor to Jetspeed and I find the Jetspeed heel to be similar to the Tapered design of the Vapor. The Heel lock in both is comparable to me but I feel the Jetspeed is tighter. This may also be the result of the Jetspeeds being brand new though. There is quite a bit more volume throughout the skate on the Jetspeed also but the toebox is tighter too.

I'll say this, if the Jetspeeds fit your feet, buy them.

What might be worth looking at is being fit properly by a good skate fitter.  It could just simply be that you're being fit incorrectly, or (in some cases I've seen) have a foot shape that can't quite be accommodated by a Bauer boot (or CCM boot for that matter and require customs).

Just be happy that you found a skate that fits and dial down your brand allegiance
