Toggle %s We're back up

Posted By:  Chadd @ 21 May 2014 - 12:34 AM

What happened?

Our hosting company was migrating us to a new server platform and the data got corrupted. The backup they ran before the migration was also corrupted. As was the backup software, which stopped creating daily backups on April 5.

Where are we now?

The site works, but there are still some issues to work out. Avatars, uploads and downloads are still having issues, we know about that. The site is also rebuilding the cache and will be slow at first. It is picking up speed and that should be back to normal soon.

What is the plan?

We're going to keep working to get all the issues resolved and keep you updated along the way. We also plan on finding a new hosting company, but that will probably be several months down the road. We want to have time to find a new host and do it the right way.

If you registered after April 5, you will need to register again.

We owe a huge thanks to Optimus Reim for helping us over the last couple days. If not for Chris's help, we would not even be up in the limited form that you see now.

Toggle %s Happy 10th Anniversary, MSH!

Posted By:  JR Boucicaut @ 20 March 2014 - 12:14 AM

For the last few days, I was thinking about what I was going to say today.  So, I decided to look at some of the very first posts on MSH for a bit of inspiration.

We started laying down the groundwork for MSH back on 3/2/2004, by hosting it on Dave’s server in Germany.  By 3/10 the modsquadhockey.com domain was bought, and we continued to work in the shadows to get it working.

On 3/19 we invited some of our Senior Members to join up to test some bugs, and then around 3:30am on 3/20 we went live (we definitely kept some long hours to get it to work.)  After that, the floodgates opened – which back then was quite a big deal, as it wasn’t as if we could just announce it on Facebook and Twitter because Facebook was launched a month prior and Twitter hadn’t been invented yet.

Let’s be honest; a lot of forums don’t survive this long – they run out of content, social media makes them irrelevant, arguments within the member base, or the admins stop caring – but we’ve been able to stay relevant and important in our field for TEN YEARS.

We’ve built something more than just a hockey equipment information resource – it’s truly a community, and in a lot of cases, a family.  Through our forum posts and our events (our Winterfest will also celebrate its 10th anniversary this year as well) we’ve built relationships with people all over the world that go beyond a keyboard.  And that’s what I’m proudest of when it comes to MSH.

Brian McDonald (mcdougalfaschnitzer) created a commemorative logo to honor MSH’s anniversary.  I pitched the idea to him over breakfast after last year’s Winterfest. The 10 rings signify each year.  We will have merchandise with the MSHX logo as well as be on both SummerJam and Winterfest jerseys as a patch.

So, thank you for participating in this little thing we’ve created here.  It’s impacted my life in so many ways, and for that, I thank you all.

Toggle %s I'm back in the game!

Posted By:  JR Boucicaut @ 05 April 2013 - 07:17 PM

I'm happy to announce that I have accepted an offer to be the Store Manager at the newest Total Hockey location in Troy, MI.

I interviewed with them in the beginning of March and came away impressed with their approach to hockey retail.

I'd like to thank those who have helped to make this possible.  I'm excited and can't wait to get back in the swing of things.

Toggle %s New Registration issues

Posted By:  JR Boucicaut @ 01 April 2013 - 12:17 PM

We are having issues after we did the email upgrade, and what is happening is that any email notifications as well as new registrations aren't sending out.

We're working on the new server and at this time, everything works well there, so we are hoping that once we move we won't have any problems.

However, if you are a new registrant, you most likely won't get an email asking to validate.  We are going to manually find the registration and process it; however, this will mean it will take a while for us to process them.

Thanks for being patient.

Toggle %s Gear exchange subscriptions

Posted By:  Chadd @ 26 March 2013 - 05:59 PM

We have been having issues processing new subscriptions and renewals for the Gear Exchange for the last couple weeks. We will be migrating to a new server within the next week or so and ask that you either wait until we have finished the migration to renew or purchase your subscription, or that you contact me or JR for instructions on processing it manually if you need to be able to respond. We apologize and hope the problem will go away when we move to the new server.
