Somehow improving my SAT score by 130 points. A lot of schools on my list went from 'unlikely' to 'very likely'. As an aside, I haven't been on the site in a while, hope everyone's doing well! Edit: Went from a 1210 to a 1340 if anyone was curious

You need both blades profiled the exact same way. If not, you'll be chasing the issue forever.

Until so many people use the stuff that's been replaced that it becomes common again... although I am having a hard time rectifying a blade pattern with hipsterness, unless said blade came with a beard and the skater wore his socks above the bottom of his shinguards...

My son got home from the end of his Jr. A season tonight. Unpacked all the gear and had a look at the skates. For some more context, he played 24 games during Jan/Feb/Mar, plus practicing nearly every day. So spitballing, I'd estimate 80+ hours of use in the 3 months since my last update. The eyelets are holding up great - here's the pics: Overall, I'm extremely pleased with how this has worked out. While there's a bit of structural damage from pucks and bangs, none of the eyelets have moved or appear to be at any risk of pulling out. And now that I've replaced them once, I can easily drill a damaged one out to replace it with a new one. It seems the material in the Blademaster eyelets are much more immune to his sweat, but there is still an element of corrosion at play as you can see in this closeup: But... it's more just on the surface and not affecting the strength of the material yet. I was able to scrape the salty like corrosion/tarnish off with a screwdriver. I bought him a new pair of FT385's as backup - they haven't been used yet, but before they are, I'm going to drill out all the stamped CCM black eyelets and put in the brass Blademaster ones. I've seen pictures of custom FT1's with all brass eyelets (same as they use on the retail skates in the top 2 eyelets and the bottom most eyelet). If we ever spring for a full custom pair, I'd definitely go with that option from the factory. Overall these skates (Jetspeed Control - a SMU based on the FT380 with FT390 and FT1 upgrades) are still in excellent shape. Boot, tendon guards and holders are holding up very well. The rivets are starting to rust a bit , but that's expected with near daily use. colins

3D printed this spacer for my skate since I didn't want to use an orthopedic insole. Used Carbon reinforced Nylon, and swapped to stainless T-nuts and screws.

Don’t worry about the lie numbers posted on the sticks. From brand to brand the equivalent patterns are about the same. I’d put them in the following order from highest to lowest assuming you’re running with the most common off the shelf patterns. P92/W03 = 5.75/6ish, full rocker and the toe points upward for many P88/W88 = 5.25/5.5ish, heel rocker and flatter through the toe P28/W28 = 5.25ish, huge heel and toe rocker. As a beginner I’d avoid it. PM9/W01 = 5, relatively flat bottom vs the others. Will be much less forgiving but probably the best beginner training tool of the four options. Stay away from hipster patterns like P106, P91, P14, P08 and P46 as trying to find them isn’t fun.

I have to say, irregardless of actual performance benefits, Bauer just feels like they're falling behind CCM from an average consumer's standpoint. With CCM removing unnecessary materials and improving their one-piece tech generation after generation, the new Vapors look so outdated. So much extra stitching, layered materials, etc. Even if the one-piece benefit is overstated at the moment, there's no denying that CCM is putting R&D money to improve their technology every year. Compared to Bauer pushing out the same CURV composite every year, I'm really happy with what CCM is doing. Bauer didn't even want to put any soft comfort edge padding on their 2S model last year. If you can fit equally well into Vapor and Jetspeed, why would you opt for Vapors at this point? Would you ever pick the 2X over the FT490?
