  1. I feel bad when doing research. I mean, I have two LHS's near me, and neither of them has the best selection of skates. So I can pretty much guarantee I won't be buying skates immediately, though I very well may or may not come back after I've checked out the other store (and possibly going home to sleep on it, researching other models that neither store had, etc etc). This is why I don't mind paying a fitting fee, so I don't feel bad walking out after using up 45 minutes of their time. I know it drives the LHS workers nuts, but honestly, I'm not meaning to look like a dick :(
  2. Can any LHS schedule a Bauer guy to come fit custom skates? The only shop nearby is in the rink, and it's TINY (and is horribly overpriced - I don't think I'd buy anything there except tape). Also what happens if you have a Bauer guy come out to fit you, and you end up not liking the skates?
  3. I don't really like the 2011 winter classic socks (and the others were light, and I wanted dark). I didn't see the panthers third socks in RBK Edge. But yes, I did really search. ahah
  4. Just picked these up yesterday (the ones on the right, I already owned the Leaf socks): Our team colors are U of Maine, and I couldn't find "modern" (ie. RBK Edge, etc) socks in those colours, so these are fairly close to matching in colour. Good enough for me, at least. Columbus Blue Jacket 3rds.
  5. At least for me the LHS *is* the huge online retailer :P I've used a LHS for fitting before - but I would absolutely not waste an employees time if I knew I wasn't buying. That holds true for me at ANY store, not just hockey. Unless I know I actually plan to buy, when asked if I need help I always say "no thanks, just browsing". However, usually if I don't buy its because either: a) I'm researching what i like, what fits, etc. and will probably come back another day to buy or b) I don't have the money and therefore wont be buying online, either. Though, in contrast to all that, I'm a pretty bad window shopper. I'll spend an hour in the LHS just looking at stuff, just because I enjoy looking at it all. As I said, I make sure to not waste anyones time. Finally, I will say that I absolutely agree with a fitting fee for skates (if somebody helps you with them, that is... if im just doing research on fitment of various brands/models, its another story). Hopefully I don't sound too much like a d*ck... not meaning to. I respect those guys who help me :) Our league has its own set of rules, and simply says "anything not covered here falls back to USA Hockey rules". They do specify the "old-style jofa helmets" to not be allowed, though. I don't wear one so I couldn't care less ;)
  6. OT but.. jimmy I love your sig. So true. They always say "he had the goalie beat"... no he didnt, he missed the net. The goalie would have stopped it if it was going in ;) Carry on.
  7. Like the S4 more, love the new audi grille.
  8. LOL No remote, I unfortunately have the base stereo, aside from the ipod kit under my armrest. I wish it had bluetooth, at least. Oh well, next car...
  9. Yep, I guess not. Ah well, what can ya do I guess.
  10. Gotcha. I'd consider him a douche if he went out of his way to buy it elsewhere, but I'd understand if he happened to see it for a good price and pulled the trigger. I'm just trying to provide another possibility about why he did that, I'm not trying to make excuses.
  11. Sorry to play devils advocate, but is it possible that he just had a "happened to be there" moment? I mean, if you made up your mind on a model, and were on a business trip or whatever, went into a store there, and just happened to see the skates you already knew you wanted for cheaper (even if not all that much cheaper after you consider bake/sharpen), and just said "well, might as well just get them here...". My point is, is it possible that he may have not necessarily gone out of his way to buy elsewhere? (Unlike people who try in person and then go buy online). I don't know, I think if I just happened to be there, and just happened to see the skates I wanted for less, I'd have a hard time saying "nah, ill buy them later when i get back to the shop who helped me with my sizing". I'd pull the trigger then and there. But like I said, going out of their way specifically to not buy from you is a whole different story...
  12. No, I have a real career. (I kid, I kid...)
  13. Well good for them. I'm not a big fan of how you put words into my mouth, though.
  14. I agree completely. I think this is more likely to happen than any other scenario. Would I buy "unmarked unauthorized overruns"? Oh hell yeah, you bet I would.
  15. This was my point. And I agree with Axxion89 - it will never happen. But I guess for me, this whole thread revolves around the whole "IF" aspect of it... IF it happened, would I buy it? Damn right.
  16. I think you looked far too deeply into my comment. Again, I'm not talking about a copy or a knockoff, I'm talking about the exact same product made in the exact same factory, with a different logo on it. Heres maybe a better example, from my field. Imagine an optical module for a fiber optics link to a router. These are commonly made by either Finisar, or JDSU. However, Cisco sells these modules with their logo on it for upwards of a $500 to $1000, and that's for the low-end ones (GigE over multimode fiber). However, when you plug them into your router and look at the hardware inventory from within the command line, it says very specifically "FINISAR". So Cisco bought Finisar SFPs, slapped their own sticker on them, and upped the price by 10x. I for one would have absolutely no problem buying straight from Finisar, avoiding the ridiculous price Cisco charges, knowing full well that its the exact same thing. My point is... *IF* such a thing existed in the hockey world (again, talking about rebranded actual brand name products, not knockoffs), I would absolutely be all over it. For example, if if could buy a pair of Bauer gloves that are missing the Bauer logo (but were made at the Bauer factory) for cheap... damn right I'd buy. Hope that clears up the confusion.
  17. I never said anything about buying knockoffs, I'm talking about buying real products that are being sold as noname brand. You know, like buying generic vs name brand medecine. It's the same thing with a different name stamped on it. I'm not sure I'd be into buying knockoff protective gear... somehow that just seems like a bad idea. BTW - way to bring something said in another thread into this one...
  18. Exactly. Like the fake oakley sunglasses that besides the logo are absolutely identical and half the price. (I know, there are also some bad knockoffs out there that are nowhere close in quality). Heh... I cant imagine spending $120 on a stick... let alone whatever the model you mention costs originally...
  19. If its the exact same product, but without the brand name on it (as in, came from the same factory), I really couldn't care less and would gladly buy it.
  20. The little machine does. And even then, unless I bought the skates there, they charge me (way too much) for that. So therefore, again, if I don't buy anything, and I didn't ask for help with fitting, I've wasted nobody's time.
  21. Nope, they didn't escape me. If you recall, I actually posted about how they were very good points. I agree with your last post 100% though, I dont have anything against online vs LHS either, and I agree I'm not going to waste somebody's time, and I dont. I never once in this thread said I did. I said I go into a store, try on something, and if its a good price I buy, if its not, I buy online.
  22. Sorry to hear that. Perhaps they could make their prices at least REASONABLY close to the online price? If they are, and I happen to be in the area, I buy from LHS. If not, I don't. Like I said, every time I buy something I weigh buying online vs buying in store. Sometimes one wins, sometimes the other.
  23. Isn't that a form of commission, then? I remember back when I worked retail, you made the same amount no matter how much you sold because you were just an hourly employee. Maybe hockey shops work differently. Then again that was a LONG time ago, too. I should also point out that I just go in and try things on, it's not like I'm wasting anyones time...
  24. Being on commission absolutely does have everything to do with it. The dude at the LHS doesn't make ANY more money by helping me than he would standing at the front of the store looking like a snide teenager. If the employees are on commission, sure I agree 100% that their time is worth something. It's not a dumb comment, you just disagree with it. This has blown into a much bigger deal than it should have. Once again, it's not like I don't buy from the LHS when its worth it (as in, weighing the pros/cons of online vs LHS for that particular item). Sometimes the LHS comes out on top, sometimes the online store does.
