  1. Am I crazy or am I seeing more guys wearing these in the NHL this year? Maybe I'm just taking more notice...
  2. I have a dented eyelet on my supertacks. It was apparently a factory defect, i noticed it when i got home with my new skates, before ever hitting the ice. It's held up though...
  3. In one of the old SVH videos floating around youtube, he says never to use the heat gun on the inside of the skate. No idea if it's a general rule, or if their manufacturing process is more sensitive to internal heat. Based on that video, I only used the heatgun on the outside of my Supertacks...
  4. My graphics are removing themselves quite well just from the games I've played in D league. I think about full season and they'll be graphic-less, haha. But seriously, there's no way the ccm graphics are meant to last any longer than sitting on the shelf at the store.
  5. Check out the clamp use at the end of this video. I'd think a little heat gun action and clamps could concentrate on the hell lock issue. On mobile, hope the link works.
  6. Thanks for the additional photos. I really might spring for these elbows next time i have money burning a hole in my pocket.
  7. If you've ever watched Beer Leage Bender, on youtube, i like the corner glass location he uses for a gopro. Seems to me, a better spot than directly behind the goalie. The angle gives you more depth, you're able to see zone entry and breakouts better.
  8. If it stays that way, it may put a hurting on the no name undercutting stick companies that sell direct to consumer. Same price, with a big name behind one; i know who I'd pick. I don't break sticks, so warranties mean very little, but the warranty policy from the no names is also pretty terrible from what i read.
  9. I accidently left my long sleeve undershirt at home one recent game. After i got over being mad at myself, i noticed it felt like i had a giant fan blowing on me any time i was moving in the ice. I was far cooler with no shirt. Still, i wear the long sleeve even though I'm hot. I like something between the pads and my skin, and i like that it absorbs sweat rather than letting it run everywhere.
  10. I'm right there with you. I cut an old stick extremely short and absolutely loved it, did wonders for my hand eye. That said, the 87 flex is now way too stiff for me, and I've missed some poke checks/interceptions by just an inch or two.
  11. Crazy. I couldn't get my supertacks on my feet before they went in the oven.
  12. For what it's worth, my old skates, supreme one.6 were overly shallow as well. When i started skating weekly i immediately had to get out of them and ended up in retail super tacks that were 1/2 size smaller than my bauers and felt much better.
  13. I'm a bit disappointed, or at least surprised, that skate width is all lumped together. For a custom measurement I'd expect for width to be broken out at the forefoot, midfoot, and heel
  14. I'm newer to hockey, so take my experience for what it is... but switched from bauer to ccm this year. At first i didn't notice a big difference, but i had issues once i skated backwards. Pretty quick adjustment, in the end, but i was looking silly for a day or two when transitioning.
  15. Yea, that was actually my initial thought. But if lightning strikes twice, I'm going to be one unhappy camper.
  16. Only part you need to read: How can I identify and understand gear that is/was only available to pros? Back story: Beer league has been fun, and i got away with minimal padding for a while. Last week i learned that i think I'd rather lug around heavier protective gear for those once in a blue moon big spills. Specifically, I'm looking into shoulder pads. My minimalist low end shoulders had been more than enough for the light contact up to this point. Most of what i know about my "crash" is based on what teammates told me. What i do know is the pain I've got in my ribs on one side, and shoulder on the opposite. My research has me interested in retail shoulder pads that are now multiple generations discontinued. However, i see many members here talk about ebay and sidelineswap gems that are non-retail available pro shoulders. Reebok comes up a lot, even Jofa, but the naming conventions leave me lost. Tldr: how can I identify and understand gear that is/was only available to pros?
  17. Yeah, I was a little annoyed that he got so hot on a contract year
  18. When the flyers lose some bad contracts, like Amac, people will forget what JVR cost if he produces what he should (i don't disagree he's expensive, just that it should be worth it). TK is only getting better, Patrick might pan out to be quite good. I really think the offense is setup for success when the youngins mature. By then, if the defense is sorted out we've got a powerhouse. I've got no idea if we'll ever have the goal figured out. But Hexy looks to have some candidates closer to NHL ready. I can agree on Simmonds. Here's my fav as well. You may be right about him, I've just felt that he hasn't fit into Hak's systems. Apparently he was injured all last year, i think i heard.
  19. I just want to say thanks for asking. I just switched back to my APX P08 (lefty as well) and it's like falling in love a second time. I've been searching this forum and the internet for a new alternative. Nothing definitive, but one of True's curves was listed as "similar" on one site. I doubt t it's a clone, but might be the closest III a reputable brand. Maybe start your search there (and let me know what you find out)
  20. James van Riemsdyk back to Philly. Not a bad way to use the available cap space for a legit top6 forward that will put SOG. I don't know where this leaves Simmonds, but i don't want to see him go; even if he has lots of value...
  21. I've built a shooting gallery in the basement. My tacky stick tape wasn't working on my ABS shooting pad, so i started using an old stick with no tape. The old stick is also cut too short, so convenient when not wearing skates. I'm falling in love with my old stick. It's cut way too short, way too stiff, and the curve is extreme yet; I'm more accurate and quicker release. It is a Bauer APX (not apx2, this is from 2011ish) so the blade has a rough pattern on the surface. The blade feels super light tapeless, and I'm having no issues shooting the puck. I'm considering bringing this thing to my next game without tape on the blade. Is it going to be totally different when the puck is frozen? That's the only thing i can think of that's different.
  22. That is the most orange orange I've ever seen. Brighter than hunting clothes.
  23. I don't think any pants are going to do much of anything for a spinal compression. Certainly tailbone padding is great in some pants, but there's still a shock up through your whole body if you land on your butt. Good luck for a speedy recovery.
  24. Playing a game tonight, I intercepted a strong pass on my forehand and i swear it seemed as though the blade just twisted out of the way. I'm very used to watching the puck bounce over my blade due to bad technique when accepting a pass; this seemed different. I'm using a very low flex senior stick. The old Sherwood T90. I liked it so much at stick and puck that i bought 2 more backups (discontinued, on clearance for less than $30!). As far as wrist shots and general feel it's been great for me. I was not originally a fan of the smaller diameter shaft but no longer notice it. I'm just curious if what i experienced is a side effect of running a low flex, or just in my head. Seemed like the shaft was able to twist above the blade, but i don't see how it could shoot effectively if that was able to happen. Thanks in advance for the education.
