Yep I agree . Will be my fourth skate on them coming up. I also didn’t even know about comfort edges before searching out for new skates...I skates on old vapors for more than a decade, and also never had any “mako bumps” or issues with discomfort with the top of the boot. Still figures I would see if anyone else has tried to DIY a comfort edge, in case the issue pops up. And as someone else commented with the fake leather upper it’s potentially possible to stitch something...but I’m not sure I’d want to do that.

I see your point and this is very useful information. (For instance I didn’t realize where the crease is, is where the end of the carbon/plastic boot is). I actually think the top 1/4” you refer to is not that soft. For instance I tried Makos as a last resort before True’s (M8s and Mako 2s), and my girlfriend has a pair of Mako M7s I just checked out...the same 1/4 section on the M7s has a much better quality finish than the trues, and is softer. I didn’t skate in the makos long but definitely got the mako bumps. Maybe that won’t happen with the Trues.

Off the wall...but has anyone had any ideas for a DIY comfort edge. Potentially some neoprene folded over the top of the upper somehow? The skates seem great, but for how much they are I’m a bit disappointed they do not have this feature.

Thanks for more info. I thought so too, but it was stated to me the shims sizes are 1/8" and that 9/16" is what they use for extreme cases to totally level out the skate. I actually will have a chance to talk to the person who is going to attach the holders to the boot before they finish my skates (neat!) so I will get more information then. But, the true rep also did mention including a bunch of different shim sizes with my order to be able to adjust if needed...so maybe you are right. Will see when I get to talk to the skate assembler.

I can imagine that would be frustrating to have the skates done and you have to wait for that. I was shocked, I got an email within 24 hours that the skates are in production. I may get mine under two weeks. The True rep said the majority of people order the skates to try to get them for the start of the season, and their turn around times are much faster after beginning of September. Maybe a tip for anyone wanting skates next year, wait a little bit past the start of the season and you can get the skates quicker possibly.

So I followed up with True support on this. Honestly my experience working with them on this issue has been real positive. Hoping the results work out for me. They did confirm the 9/16th. I was told they typically do 1/8 and 9/16th, with the 9/16th for more extreme examples to totally flatten out the skate. The True rep said 1/8 is a good spot to start, and to switch to a higher shim if needed. Also super stoked as the store told me 6-8 weeks (!) to get the skates, but I got an email today saying the skates were in production...and I got my fitting yesterday. Turns out I may get the skate under two weeks. Has been a real positive experience thus far.

Thanks Z1ggy. This is a big purchase for me, and somewhat my last go to be able to keep playing hockey with my foot issues. The rep did say "1/8 vs 9/16". I thought 9/16 was large too. Would not have thought to double check, now I am thinking he may have meant "1/16th". The way you described your experience makes me just think trying 1/8 is a good spot to start.

Greetings This website has been one of the most informative and useful for me over the years. This is my first post as I couldn't find anything within the 218 pages about "Forefoot skate shims". This is my first post. I have run the gamut of trying to find skates that don't cause me pain. I have arthritis in my feet, and most of my pain comes from forefoot pressure / my foot metatarsal bones. I asked true if they can make a less aggressive skate because of my condition. I am aware being more "stand up and on your heels" is not the correct skating posture. But I'm not a pro player and being more upright causes me less pain. True gave me two options of an "exterior" shim and an "interior shim" for the forefoot area, to level out the skate. The support rep from True said" "For the lifts to be removable they will have to be exterior lifts. The exterior lifts are simply a piece of plastic either 1/8” or 9/16” placed between the holder and the boot. The interior lifts are the same sizing options but actually molded into the bottom of the boot making it look seamless. However they are not removable this way." I am curios if anyone recommends one over the other? Is there much of a performance difference? How much of a difference between 1/8 vs 9/16 will there be? I am leaning towards the exterior shim as that way I could remove it if I ever wanted to. I have no idea on the shim sizes for the forefoot. I still have time before the skate goes into production. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated, thank you.
