Strangest gloves by each recent company…

Bauer: one90, appreciate the attempt to push the envelope but it tried too hard to look different as well.

CCM/Reebok: 30K, maybe the ugliest glove of all-time.

Easton: Mako, ideas were decent, just horrendous appearanch.

    Mission: Fuel 90.

Warrior: pretty much anything since the QRL.

    True: Anything Z-Palm

Pure Hockey had an SMU that was the 30K glove, without all the plastic that made the glove as ugly as it was and a pro palm. Still to this day my favorite gloves I've owned.

  2. Unfortunately Bauer won't be implementing all three fits to the roller line, at least as of now.

3XProRH will come in Fit 2 only. I really wish Bauer would give a Fit 3 option. I know the roller community is nowhere near as large as the ice community, but it really would set them apart knowing if a guy came in with higher insteps/volumed feet, we would have something that could comfortably work off the shelf.

  3. Heard a story from my area manager about Evgeny Kuznetsov going into the Rockville Pure Hockey and buying a pair of 3XPro skates because he "doesn't like the stiffness of the Hyperlites." Didn't believe they would actually see game action, and then I see this from today. 3XPro, Carbonlite steel.

This guy really is one of us. Apparently he also buys 40-50 rolls of Renfrew tape at a time because he likes "the green core tape" lmao

  4. Looking at the shelves in my work, I'd be inclined to agree. We're sparingly getting skates. We just received our most ice skates in months this past week, and we maybe got 15 pairs of 3S skates.

Custom lead times are now minimum 130 days (Bauer) due to staffing shortages. It's going to be tough for the beginning of the year I think.

Do you guys think that the demand for the 100 flex stick have gone down over the last five ten years?

It's almost nonexistent at this point. There's a few outliers, for sure, but for the most part, we don't see it. We don't even bring in 102/105 flex on booking orders - only on closeout.

At this point, I don't think the average beer league player has either the technique, or strength to get what is needed to properly use a 100 flex.

In the '90s it was like the higher the flex, the more manly you were.  Aluminum sticks, 100 flex, etc.  Completely ignored flex in some search of ego or something.

I think stick technology has evolved so much that you can now let the sticks do the work for you.  Takes some adjustment depending on the sticks and your body type, mechanics.  Over the years I've gone from nose height on skates to chin height.  And I've dropped from 77 flex to flipping between 65 and 55 Gaudreau pro stocks.  I'm 5'7", 145 lbs.

The problem is a lot of guys who played then, still have that same mindset.

I love TRUE's sticks, because they make their 65/68 flex at senior shaft dimensions. I'd use a 65 flex all day if every brand followed suit. Alas, they don't, and I feel like the INT TRUE's noodle out much quicker than desired, so I've since gone to 70 flex CCM's. But the main issue I have is height, being only 5'6 (but 200 lbs - damn COVID). I just don't cut as much off the stick anymore.

I suppose 'concerned' may not have been the right word choice. They're hockey skates so they're going to get beat up. I was just surprised by this the first game out. I understand the idea of drilling a hole to try and stop a potential spread of the crack, but I'd be weary to do that in case this becomes a problem and I have to file a warranty claim with True. Perhaps I'll contact them first so it's documented and then drill a hole.

The original photo might not show this, and I'm not sure how the toe cap/boot is on pre-TF9 True skates, but there is a slight gap between the boot and the toe cap. Both boots and both sides of the toe cap is like this. It's hard plastic, but you can push it and make it flex a bit if you try. Here's a close up showing the area I'm referring to where the diagonal pattern meets the toe cap. Where the toe cap is glued/flush with the bottom of the boot is more or less where the crack started.

I'd be careful of your wording if you reached out to TRUE regarding this. At the end of the day, they could tell you you're out of luck because you modified the original skates - therefore voiding any warranty they offer.

Nice. As long as they have a CCM scanner for customs that’s were I was planning to go.  @EBondo - you do, right?  I saw a Bauer scanner when I was In there last getting the 80ks that are breaking down on me.

    Hey Jimmy,

We do have the CCM scanner available. Shoot me a PM if you want, let me know the gist what you're looking for. Our only problem is stock when it comes to CCM, as Ribcores are not a skate we get as frequently, and the Tacks obviously being refreshed this year, our stock is a bit on the depleted side. However, since you'd be coming from further away, I can work with some stores to see if we need to get anything in ahead of time.

Also, not sure when exactly you were looking to head on over, but just as an aside, I'll only be in this location for another month, as I'll be transferring to another location. But I can always get you set up with one of the other guys.

im shocked that pro players wouldn’t be using the top of the line elbow pads. Aho looks to have S190 elbows. Is this common?

Best believe if I was in the show, I'd try to find a way to still be using my now 20-year old Jofa's, which are anything but top of the line.

I can't stand modern elbow pads. They're so bulky and restrictive. If I HAD to pick a modern elbow pad? Give me the FT370's.

Can't wait to see the see the results.

That happens when a company wont send a helmet to be tested VT then had to purchase all the helmets

I thought it was weird when I saw Virginia Tech as the company and was shipping a royal blue helmet, then I was like "oh....right....that thing." Haha

Found these in a used sporting goods store on a trip to Buffalo:

The water the tap is putting out is clear.  I'm expecting a good five washes until the water runs kinda clear.  Then I hit it with oxyclean.

These would go great with my JDP 2000 elbows I've been using since I was 9 (1999). Great find!
