  1. I am curious about this as well. Is the carbon heel, arch, etc, all custom made for the foot, or is i that piece the same across all of their custom skates? While I don't have Haglunds, I do have an accessory navicular that rubs in some skates.
  2. I found it to be V shaped I guess? Ended up returning them. Toe box was a smidge looser than the Vapor 2X Pro, but a smidge tighter than the Supreme 2S Pro. Instep taller than Vapor, but shallower than Supreme. Heel wider than both Supreme and Vapor. I liked the skate, comfy as hell, but its a tough sell. With how flexible the boot is, they seem to pitch is as a do it all fit.
  3. I don't know man... toe box and midfoot, yes, but not sure about the heel. The Ribcore 80ks I just got out of had a bigger heel and much more slip than the Supreme 2S Pros.
  4. Might sound stupid but after the skate buying episode I have been on... I'm worried to ruin anything with another bake. First was at a Pure Hockey done by a forum member here, and was obviously much more conservative than your 5 minutes. He did mention potentially going into a shop locally to get a second bake after a few skates. You do yours at home in a normal oven? My first ride out, I cranked down through the midfoot pretty tight and it was rough. Last night I went looser and the pain was gone. Maybe I could go just as loose with even better fit after a second. Sorry to steal your post OP - hopefully you get something useful from the banter.
  5. Interesting about the second bake. I did a single two minute bake, and they feel pretty damn good. I guess maybe I try a second? No hot spots, but maybe the tongue could wrap better. To the OP - its tough to tell without you actually lacing them to push your foot back into the boot, and skating. Plenty of times I haven't comfortably stood in a new skate, but after a few I've settled into the boot and its been perfect.
  6. Are custom CCM skates also made in these same plants?
  7. Nice. As long as they have a CCM scanner for customs that’s were I was planning to go. @EBondo - you do, right? I saw a Bauer scanner when I was In there last getting the 80ks that are breaking down on me.
  8. Hey fellas, anyone have any recommendations on skate fitting in or around Virginia? I am 23455 Virginia Beach but looking to drive somewhere. Closest retailers of custom skates is Five Hole Sports in Wake Forest NC, MedStar Capitals Pro Shop in DC area, the Gardens Ice House in Laurel MD, or a Pure Hockey location in Sterling. Thanks
  9. Where do you fellas go to get such treatment? I have no hate for Pure Hockey - they have treated me very well through this process, and seem willing to help, but it just doesn't feel like this level of expertise exists at the store fronts.
  10. What customs worked for you? I am considering that route and was wondering if the custom mold compensates for it.
  11. That’s an easy area to hit with a punch? Would have been nice for them to pitch that to me when trying on skates for 3 hours.
  12. I guess I return them and try custom. I don’t mind spending the money... these just felt nice for 700. Tough since I drove 4 hours to get them, 4 hours home, then went back for a holder issue. To do a return plus 3D... another trip. Who’s making the best customs these days?
  13. They pitch these as “flexframe”... softer flex on the front, stiffer in the back of the boot. But... lol. https://photos.app.goo.gl/a1vXrPCk19Qb71kr8
  14. I’m 175 lbs and it’s a top model skate. But yeah it’s similar to that.
  15. I’ll give it a shot. They are so form fitting I would be fine without the top. At this point I’m still in the 90 day CCM warranty. Throw in the towel or see how they ride out another 20 days? If these fail I’d have to go custom to address high instep and accessory navicular.
  16. You are right on that. None of my past skates came that close together. Man... I was just hoping to avoid custom.
  17. Here is where I get stuck - there is no negative space. When tied up, they are truly the most form fitting skates I've ever worn, including Makos. If that little lace facia break down (if thats what it is) didnt occur, they are the best skates I've ever owned. Everything else chews up the top of my foot, or rubs my "accessory navicular" above my arch. Damn it.
  18. Hey fellas, I have been skating in these CCM Ribcore 80ks for a couple of weeks and noticed bowing/flexing on both skates, inside, between the second and third eyelets. I don't recall any of my other skates flexing like this here, but these are also CCMs "Flexframe" design and I wonder if it could be normal. Anyone have a clue? Link is to Google photos which includes a video. In my head they feel ok, but if these were past skates, I'd probably have thought this was the sign of them breaking down and look at replacing. My older skates were also as stiff as they come, whereas these are designed to have some flex, I think? https://photos.app.goo.gl/N6pUdcg2AUthJSdZ7 Thanks, Jim
  19. Interesting, thanks! I’ll have to order a set and match them up to my new CCM steel.
  20. Is the profile/contour of "stock Step" different that the manufacturers stock steel? I have the CCM XS holders with Speedblade XS1 Black steel. The replacement Step would be a different profile/contour? I had always thought it was the same - just different materials.
  21. Navicular, or accessory navicular? If the latter, you will have a tough time in it banging up against the inner wall of Tacks and Jetspeeds. Ribcore 80ks are more friendly to it, as are all of the Bauer models.
  22. Made the trek to Pure Hockey a few hours away and went through the process for almost 4 hours. I tried on all Bauer and CCM models, different quality tiers, and all the sizes around where I would fit. Few interesting things... - They pointed out the hard plastic "lace bite protection" strip on the Bauer Supreme tongue wasn't doing me any favors, and likely causing a lot of the issue. I also had a ton of dead space in that boot so I opted to just ditch the skate all together. The new Supreme was slightly shallower, and also had the hard plastic plate in the tongue. -They used a Bauer 3D scanner which had me in three different skates, depending on what measurement we were looking at. My most offensive measurement was the instep height, which immediately ruined all the Bauer skates except the Nexus. Problem with the Nexus was it was massive everywhere else for me. My high instep doesn't match my otherwise pretty slender foot. - Vapor fit pretty well everywhere else, but my high instep had me bursting way out of the top. - CCM Tacks and Jetspeed almost fit perfect - except the inner wall above arch support. I have an "accessory navicular", aka second inner ankle bone above my arch, and as it collapsed when I stood, it rubbed the inner wall of both Tacks and Jetspeed. Might have been able to punch it out, but light baking did not provide relief. Easton Makos gave me the same issues and I was never able to completely resolve it even with punching. - The 3D scanner, and the store manager recommended custom, but I wasn't prepared to spend that kind of money am holding off to try the skate I got, which has the 90 return policy. - Ended up in a skate I'd never considered - CCM Ribcore 80k. Years ago when I tried a Ribcore, it was heavy and felt more like a Nexus, but its been completely revamped the past couple years pretty damn general fit now. CCM pitches it as average everywhere but a medium-high instep, which is perfect for me. Its tight along my forefoot, appears to lock the heel well, and didn't bother that extra bone in my ankle. I was a bit reluctant since I have it stuck in my head that I need the stiffest skate in the world, which the Ribcore is designed to NOT be, but I'll give it a try. CCM Ribcore 80ks... who would have thunk it. After trying them on, reviewing features, and reading up on them, they are kind of an underdog in skates these days, and I be a lot of guys would benefit from the flex profile, as well as the fit. Time will tell - have a game tonight. -Jim
  23. Thats great info, thanks! I am headed to a Pure Hockey a couple of hours away this weekend to see 1) how my foot measures on a 3d fitting machine and 2) check out the Tacks 9090s. -Jim
  24. Interesting! My thought on the Tacks was purely from looking at photos online. Even though listed as a "medium volume" skate, the sides just seem to be taller than others. So you didn't experience the pain in the Tacks?... just a different issue of no heel lock? What are you currently in?
