    Marsblade Ice Holder

Hi all, What does everyone think about the Marsblade holder coming out pretty soon? Think it will be the real deal? Is the Tuuk holder in for massive market share loss?
  2. Hello All, Last year I was forced to play goalie for a lower-level beer league in short notice, so I ended up buying a lot of my gear from eBay. I was lucky enough to spend under $500 for everything, since I was (and still am) on a budget. Unfortunately 2 of the main pieces, my Chest Protector and Leg Pads, are causing some issues. I'll explain in more detail: I bought a Bauer Supreme One95 (not Pro) Chest Protector in size Medium for $85. It was in like-new condition. I can tell the arms are definitely a few inches too long because they tend to push my glove and blocker off a little, and also the elbow pads don't line up with my elbows. I looked at cutting and re-sewing the arms with a sewing awl, however, I am not sure how to approach this, and I definitely don't want to butcher them beyond repair. Also, they seem to be pretty bulky in the upper area, so I can't really turn my head without my mask (and throat protector) being restricted by the pads. So two questions: Is it difficult to mod gear while still having it hold up? Any suggestions on what to do with the upper area? My leg pads are Vaughn Velocity 7500 33+1. I am 5'7", and the pads seem to fit, it is just when I go down in a butterfly position my knees are exposed, and I have been hit there a few times. I definitely want to get some sort of protection there, but I also feel like the top of the pads should cover a majority of that area, is that correct? My concerns are whether or not the pads are the right size, or if I am going down in the butterfly position incorrectly. As far as protection goes, would you recommend thigh guards that attach to the pad, or knee/thigh pads that are separate? I mainly question whether or not I should get some new/used gear that addresses my issues. At the same time, I would save money by making some modifications to the gear. As I stated, it is a lower-level beer league, so the shots aren't ridiculously hard, but I still want to feel comfortable playing in my gear. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I plan on going to Play it Again and our local hockey store to check out/try on some gear as well.
  3. Okay so I'm 20 years old and used to play middle linebacker in football for 16 years and was fortunate enough to to get a scholarship to a D1 school. Well do to the fact I hated the school and really didn't like football I left the university. Hockey has always been my favorite sport also when my old buddy asked if I wanted to join his adult rec begginer league I said HELL YEAH. I have a month and a half to get ready for season it's nothing to seriouse but my question is.. what position should I play? The manager of the team wants to put me at Center and just be a power forward and kinda bully and get in the head of the other Team. (Kessler from the ducks) I'm 6'1 (off skates) and 225 of pure muscle (once again I was a D1 athelete) I understand ice hockey is a whole different beast than football but my skating is a little below average as of now I can go forward. Stop, and change direction. It's techniqually a "non-check" league but I was told as long as I don't line someone up in open ice and take him out of the game most hits are ok especially along the boards fighting for the puck. Any advice or drills for me? Is a very big and physical Center viable? I need to learn to pass and take better shots I havnt had stick time in a while but I just made the decision to sign up today. And where should I get my gear. I wanna do this right so any advice would be much appreciated! Once again the division I'll be playin in is for adult beginners ONLY some can barley stand in their skates. Any advice on my position or anything else on how to improve my skills would be very helpful thanks!
  4. Hi, so a little bit of background about me to help because I want to find a stick that is $110 or lower and can include previous high price sticks that have since been reduced: -Play only 1-3 times a week -Play at high school JVA/Varsity Level -Play offense and defense but mostly defense -I have an 80-90 MPH slapshot which I use often -I also prefer a stick I can shoot the puck quickly with without reducing strength -Need a durable stick that can last a while. Any help is appreciated!

    Islanders Fire Jack Capuano

The Islanders, who are in 28th place in the NHL, last in the East, last in the Metropolitan Division and winners of their last game, have fired head coach Jack Capuano halfway through his eighth season with the team. I'll be the first to admit that the Islanders have underperformed this season, for a lot of reasons. Irresponsible signings on the part of Garth Snow. John Tavares just has nobody to play with on his wings and may really leave after next year. Cizikas and Clutterbuck are not worth a combined 6+ million. Halak, who was supposed to be the guy, is in the AHL. Greiss, who is the guy, is a pending UFA at 30 years old who's going to get one hell of a raise. Berube will not be the guy. The defense is suspect at times. The prospect pool is full of guys who should be in the show by now and aren't there, either developmentally - Dal Colle or maturitally - Ho Sang (not a word, I know). How did it go so wrong? Snow had it going well up until free agency. He is the root of the problem and the guy who, let Kyle Okposo and Frans Nielsen walk without an offer, signed Rick Dipietro for fifteen seasons, as well as Kulemin + Grabovski for 9.25 / season, not to mention an (at the time) 31 year old Johnny Boychuk for 7yrs*6mil. No way he stays. The internet is calling for them to move to QC. Probably won't happen, but who knows. Not sure if inevitable new GM tries to salvage core or strip team to bones. The Barclays Center is a travesty. Saw them play the Oilers there in November, and I don't know if I'd rather go there or NVMC. I wonder how KGBeast is ... his team's doing well. EDIT: Should mention that this is after Snow gave Capuano a 'Vote of Confidence'.

Is Mission anticipated to be coming out with a new set of skates this year? Are they due?
  10. So, I just saw that Sher-Wood has a new T90 out with an engineered low kick point: the T90 LKP. Kinda surprising that it came out with such little fanfare. I had never heard of it before and just stumbled upon it while browsing their site. Has anyone tried one or even just seen one? Seems to me like the LKP could earn the T90 line a lot of new fans. Link: http://www.sher-woodhockey.ca/product-detail.php?c=1&p=321&t=2 On a slightly related note, the latest model of the regular T90 is marketed as mid kick (same as T100). Does anyone know if they actually engineered the kickpoint or if it's the same as the old T90? Apparently they also included the same expanded blade throat as the T100 (and Bauer Supreme series). I compared an old and a new T90 in a store and the new one did look like it had a bigger throat. EDIT: The LKP comes out November 1st. Nevermind about feedback then lol.
