Haven't really given Rise Against a chance previously, but I'm loving all their songs on their MySpace. I think I'll get their latest album.

I also need to get Postal Service for times where I'm not in the mood to headbang like it's 1986.

You rule. Covers most of my fav. bands, i did not think i would meet someone with this taste around here.

Here are my likings

I collect Some Girls vinyl. I got all releases on every pressed colour, including 3 Testpresses, which im kinda proud of (just 7 pressed or so).

I can upload a show-off pic if someone is interested ;)

You have some good stuff on your last.fm as well. :)

I saw Some Girls a few years ago when AMFAGD came out. Incredible live performance, although I still prefer the Locust more.

Post up some of your vinyls, I'd definitely like to see them. I wish I had more records, but it's hard to get a hold of them nowadays.

Sven and davezilla, you should check out Pinback, Hot Chip, and Her Space Holiday.

Sigur Ros is awesome, I wish i could see them live sometime, but they never come close to where i live... Maybe if they play Chicago sometime

Also, everone should check out 311. The older the album, the better ;) I'm currently listening to Music

Decibully - Amazing and at times decadent.

Voxtrot - I guess they're becoming all the rage these days. Shame when a good thing gets over exposed. Brit-popish mixed with a little Jackson Browne? Yet uniquely original.

Maritime - Ex Promise Ring

arcade fire is pretty good, i don't really like alot of their new cd "neon bible" too much though, a couple songs are alright.

Try Joanna Newsom if you want something really different. She's a singer/songwriter with a unique voice- and a classical harp.

Velvet Underground. Obviously nothing new but I can't imagine many here listening to them let alone knowing of them.

They're real good, I hate nico's voice though, I can't listen to any of the songs with her singing.

Rush.. new cd out, and it rocks. If youve never heard them, some good albums are:

Moving Pictures

Permanent Waves

Snakes and Arrows (new)

Hemispheres

A Farewell to Kings

The three of them are all virtuosos at their respective intstruments and Neil usually has some pretty philosophical/upbeat lyrics. Neil won drummer of the year award a crazy amount of times in the past 25 years, geddy can throw down some crazy bass lines, and alex can tear up the guitar when he feels like it

my band opened for moe tucker's band "magnet" for a show in houston..

I'm sure a lot of people here know velvet underground without even knowing it.. if that makes sense.

My additions to the party...

some groups with new stuff out:

Bright Eyes. I guess they're pretty well known nowadays but all of their albums are pretty decent, including there recent release, Cassadaga

Lostprophets. Also somewhat known. Latest album isn't spectacular but their first 2 are good, also a very good live show.

super-unknown special:

Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey. If you like modern jazz improv, they have some pretty cool stuff, fresh sound with a classic vibe too.. very good live show...

Quick hits that i haven't seen mentioned

AFI - old stuff is better

Anberlin

Bela Fleck

Dead Prez

Fun Lovin Criminals

Howie Day - ya i know he's popular now but if you can find any of his early live stuff it's sweet...

Lyfe Jennings

Madball

Mae

Matisyahu

Me First and the Gimme Gimmes - worlds greatest cover band

Royce Da 5'9"

St. Germain

X-ecutioners
