Has David been sent down, the qmjhl have him penciled in to play at the Canada Russia series

http://www.rds.ca/lhjmq/chroniques/239028.html

that series happened at the end of august

no, that was the canada russia superseries, this is the russia vs CHL series, confusing yes. i dont really understand this unless st louis is letting him play to get some game action. I'm sure JR would've known if he was sent down which judging by his last post here he wasn't.

He hasn't been sent down. His team mates speak highly of him and want him to succeed. I don't know Weight but, one guy I talk with regularly says that he wants to play with him and they really seem to read each other well. I beleive they can loan him for a junior series. With the time they are spending working with him I do not think he will be sent down. It also makes more sense to keep him up with the other rookies who will enter next year. They need to stagger the kids into the lineup to be fiscally responsible down the road. His work should pay off and become a regular shortly. Murray is all about character and teaching. He will be ready to go when he is called. I think he gets 2-3 games in a row after tonight. They are ideal match-ups for it.

During Leafs Broadcasts (or maybe all Sportsnet broadcasts...I'm not sure) there is a feature at the intermission called Home Town Heroes (sponsored by Home Hardware). David was the featured player tonight...although I was at a bar and the sound wasn't on. There were shots from Lewiston, Team Canada, I think a "Q" ASG, and St. Louis.

Here is an article i found

TEAM QMJHL NAMED FOR CANADA-RUSSIA SERIES

BOUCHERVILLE,QC, October 23, 2007 – Fifteen players from Eastern Division teams were among 27 named Tuesday to the roster of Team QMJHL which will compete against a delegation of Russian All-Stars in the 2007 ADT Canada-Russia Challenge.

Included are goaltenders Jonathan Bernier of Lewiston MAINEiacs and Nicola Riopel of the Moncton Wildcats; defencemen Simon Després, Yann Sauvé and Alex Grant of the Saint John Sea Dogs, Mark Barberio of the Wildcats, Kevin Marshall from Lewiston and Andrew Bodnarchuk of the Halifax Mooseheads

The forwards include David Perron of the MAINEiacs, Logan McMillan and Ryan Hillier of the Mooseheads, Christopher DiDomenico of the Sea Dogs, Mathieu Perreault of the Titan and James Sheppard of the Cape Breton Screaming Eagles, who is currently with Minnesota Wild in the NHL and unlikely to be available.

Two others named to the team, Kelsey Tessier of Moncton, N.B. who plays with Quebec Remparts and Brad Marchand of Halifax, who plays with Val d'Or Foreurs are Atlantic Canadians.

The others named to the team include goaltender Raffaele D’Orso from Val d'Or, defencemen Steven Delisle of Gatineau, Mathieu Bolduc of Chicoutimi and Sébastien Piché of Shawinigan and forwards François Bouchard and Benjamin Breault from Baie-Comeau, Philippe Cornet from Rimouski, Joël Champagne (from Chicoutimi, Angelo Esposito from Quebec, Claude Giroux from Gatineau and Keven Veilleux from Victoriaville.

Rimouski Océanic head coach Clément Jodoin is back for a third straight stint behind the QMJHL bench. His assistants will be Benoît Groulx of the Gatineau Olympiques and Richard Martel of the Chicoutimi Saguenéens.

"This event represents a great opportunity for Quebec Major Junior Hockey League players to showcase their skills," declared Clément Jodoin. "International competitions of this magnitude are something I look forward to and I’m sure the players do to."

The Chicoutimi Saguenéens will host the first game of the series, on Monday, November 19, at the Georges-Vézina Centre. The second game will take place the following Wednesday at the Robert-Guertin Centre in Gatineau. Then, the Russian delegation heads west where it will play two games against the OHL and WHL all-stars.

All six contests will be televised nationwide on Rogers Sportsnet. RDS will broadcast the games which will be played in QMJHL markets.

The ADT Canada-Russia Challenge plays a very important role in the selection process of Canada’s World Junior Hockey Championship and Under-18 Championship rosters. Each of the three CHL member leagues assembled a selection committee, which worked closely with Hockey Canada’s Chief Scout, Al Murray, to select the players who would participate in the Challenge.

The QMJHL selection committee included Jérôme Mésonéro, General Manager of the Victoriaville Tigres, Sylvain Couturier, General Manager of the Acadie-Bathurst Titan, Clément Jodoin, head coach of the Rimouski Océanic, and Raymond Bolduc, the Director of Hockey Operations of the QMJHL.

A total of twenty-seven players were named to participate in the two-game event. Head coach Clément Jodoin will announce the starters for each game at a later date.

This is from HFBoards:

For those who don't visit the Asylum, Perron did an interview with Perron with questions coming from the posters there.

1. Is it true he'll be playing in the QMJHL series against Russia? What about the World Juniors?

Perron: “If I go back to Juniors, then I will play in the series. If I stay here, no I won’t play. I don’t know about the World Juniors. I have no clue. I hope I’ll be staying here.”

2. Thanks JR. David, glad to have you in the org. Would you prefer the status quo here or return to Jrs? I think most of us would like to see you PLAYING here. Good luck on a long and productive career.

Perron: “Playing here.”

3. How does practicing at an NHL level and working with specialist (strength coaches etc.) help you and your game?

Perron: “It helps my game a lot. Like I said, to be around these guys, just to see how mature they are off the ice, how they act . . . all these details will help me in the long run. It’s great to be here.”

4. Does he understand the philosophy behind the Blues keeping up with the team but not playing him much and is he OK with it?

Perron: “Obviously I want to play every night. I understand what Andy wants to do with me right now. I keep my focus and when I get my chance, I’ll be ready for sure. I work hard to stay here for the whole year.”

5. I guess I would wonder if Murray has told Perron which games or which types of games he would get to play in. Is he more likely to play against less physical teams?

Perron: “No, he didn’t say anything about that.”

6. what do you think of the blues fanbase so far?

Perron: “It’s been great so far. It started at the developmental camp. The Mills was packed. It’s been the same since I got here and it’s awesome. I’m from Montreal, which is a great city for hockey, and the fans are awesome there. It’s pretty much the same here and it’s getting better.”

7. What does he think about the new Therma Blade skates that the NHL is thinking about implementing and has he tried them out?

Perron: “I haven’t tried them out. I don’t have much information about the blades. I know what they are, but I haven’t tried them yet.”

8. Does he understand why he is not playing? And if so what does he think about it.

Perron: “Like I said, I want to play every night. I do and I don’t understand at one point. But it’s great to be here so far. I’ve enjoyed my time and I know I’m going to get my chance. I just have to be patient.”

9. David what surprised you the most at practice in the NHL, the speed/pace of the play?

Perron: “It is much faster. You have less time to make plays. You have to be quicker in everything. But playing with better players will help you a lot, too. Because it’s easier. You make pass, they’re going to give it back. At one point, the game gets easier because of that.”

Send him down already. Playing 1 game in 8 is just dicking him around.

Do you know anything?

David is getting a better experience practicing every day at the NHL level and at the NHL pace and observing and being around other professional NHL playesr than he would get walking a bunch of kids in the Q.

Get real. This is easily the best route for him and when there are injuries (which there will be) he'll be the most ready to step in that he can be.

Two different schools of thought. I have always believed that it is better to be playing than to be watching. I also don't believe a prospect should be living in the press box for depth. That is a job for a journeyman or AHL call up.

I guess that's why Andy Murray and co. are in the Employee of the St. Louis Blues and you are not.

The Q isn't going to help David at this point. His weight and strength training he's doing during practice is worth 10x the experience he would get with another year in the Q.

No matter how good a practice may be, it is not substitute for game action.

Sure, because guys never get returned to juniors with a diet and exercise regimen to follow.

Kovalev Pro

not to get too off topic - just wanted to ask a quick question..

what is the difference between the regular warrior ak27 kovalev blade and the "pro" version? is the heel of the blade a little smaller or is it something else? got any pics?

camhockey16 and Dalston,

Retail patterns are usually given pro player's name to identify them but they usually don't have any link or similarity with the "pro" player pattern. Kovalev pro and retail warrior Kovalev are 2 different things.

As for David, I tend to agree with chippa on this one. How can you deprive a natural scorer like David from scoring fancy goals. Sure practice with pros sounds good and bus traveling sucks but IMO, you gotta either make him play or send him back in the Q where he could get big numbers. I may be totally wrong.
