im not too sure about this, cause i never really played hockey in manhattan, but i know of some reall good stores in the suburbs..theres Pecks in White Plains, they were my number one store def. other than that, there are stores at all the ice rinks, such as WSA in Elmsford, which has a good pro shop, Ice Hutch is decent in Pelham, Brewster has a real good score, but thats about an hour away from Manhattan..other than that, i cant make any recommendations, other than maybe traveling 20-30 mins from Manhattan..to be honest, its not worth it, your better off looking online..

That's pretty much it for Manhattan

West Side Skate is primarily a sharpening shop. Good guys but their equipment selection is limited and usually only smaller brands (Balistik, Farrell, Harrow, etc.), their skate selection is pretty much 100% Graf.

Wonderland Sports is seriously overpriced and has somewhat limited inventory mostly because its a small location. If you're going to go that route you're better off going to their main location in Brooklyn.

Cosby's is old school, haven't been inside in a while so I can't comment on their selection or inventory.

Paragon is a general sports store. Their hockey section is ok, not great, and generally mid-range pieces not top-end. They do seem to have a decent array of skates, but you never know what is and isn't in stock.

NHL Store has no equipment but plenty of NHL merchandise.

Ice House in Hackensack NJ, DarkStar50 manages it. Not TOO far from NYC.

I'm pretty sure a while back DarkStar actually fitted me with all my new equipment. Either way, I have to +1 this, great shop, great people, nice place to play.

I am goning to NYC in the fall wenn the NHL season begins so i can see a game or two. Is it easy to get to you Darkstar from Manhattan. I am looking to get new skates and gloves maby costom if you can ship them later? Its not every day i get a chance to visit the US so hopes to make the most of it. Mostly with gething new gear... :D. Your shop looks close to Manhattan on a map but how is the transport system from Manhattan to Hackensack NJ? Thanks.

Don't bother with Cosby's. I stopped in a few weeks ago and was majorly disappointed. No more equipment like they used ot have back in the MSG days. Now they have mostly jerseys and a few sticks that are about 50% more expensive than any other retailer.

shouldn't be hard at all to get to hackensack via mass transit. a good bulk of people commute to manhattan from there for work.

definitely worth the trip out to ice house. really knowledgable staff.

I guess you will be able to take a bus from the Port Authority bus terminal in Manhattan

There is a bus terminal in Hackensack on River Street. We are a 5 minute walk from there. If the weather's bad, I'll pick you up! We are very easy to get to from Manhattan by bus.

Thanks guys. Looked online but did not find that. Just have to plan the rest of my trip to NYC :) . I hope i can work something out with Darkstar wenn the time comes as it is ones in a life time fore me to get customs skates. But i would gladly use a day of my trip to get that chance. Hey sorry guys it seems i abandoned this thread, I am in NY right now and went to paragon sports, basically had no kit whatsoever.

Im going to head down to Wonderland at Chelsea Pier tomorrow, hopefully they have some decent selection of gloves. Anyone know anything about this place e.g prices, selection?

I play at Chelsea Piers on a regular basis; the store is decently stocked (considering how small it is). The prices are not great...everything retail. I guess that is a matter of opinion, depending on what prices are like where you live.

As everyone has mentioned before, there is not much in the way of good hockey stores in Manhattan itself.

Can anyone reccomend me the retail price for some mid level CCM (vector 6), RBk or Easton gloves. This is just so i dont waste my time going down there on my last day, only to leave without buying anything.

Get on the bus at Port Authority at 42nd St and go to Ice House in Hackensack. 25% off most of the gloves in stock. We are also going through 4 pallets of new Bauer product delivered on Thursday. We open at noon. Sorry for the shameless plug........ah, no, I'm not.....
