LS2 Runner is Suddenly Brittle and Crumbling

Recommended Posts

My friend has had X100s since mid-spring, and still has the stock LS2 runner on them. Last week, he couldn't hold one of his edges after getting them sharpened at a Pure Hockey. He had them redone, figuring that it was either a bad job, or he somehow dulled that section of the blade while playing. After another sharpening he still had the same problem. He said the blade looks fine right after it's sharpened, but after skating for an hour, it looks like small pieces are starting to break off on that edge.

1) Is this probably happening from the sharpener over-heating the blades while he's sharpening?

2) If that is the case, does he have any sort of recourse? Is it just a matter of taking them to the store and seeing if the manager will do anything for him?

Anyone have any experience with a store offering to replace steel because of a bad sharpening?

It's essentially his word against their's, particularly in this case where its new place for him where he didn't know them and they don't know him. Seems like a losing proposition.

You're pretty much hosed. Most of them have dipshit disclaimers for people who don't know how to use the sharpener but do anyway.
