Severs Disease - Fixes?

Recommended Posts

I made a post not about what sticks to buy! Is this real?

So, I've been recently been having pain in my heels, back towards the Achilles region. After some research, it turns out the pain may be from Severs disease, a growth related injury in which the heel bone grows faster than the surrounding ligaments and bones, causing pain. (http://www.webmd.com/children/severs-disease-kids-teens#1) Ice hasn't really helped the soreness, a cast wouldn't be easily sourced, and generally speaking I try to avoid medicine if possible (not a religious or ideological thing, just personal preference) so are there any quick fixes before going to an orthopedist or podiatrist? (Still plan on going, but this is in the interim.)

Lacrosse season is getting into full swing soon, so hopefully this gets resolved quickly.

You don't know what is causing it without getting checked out. You're not qualified. It could be something worse, it could be a lot simpler. Go see a doctor.

No offense intended.

My daughter had/has Severs, the pain is on the bottom of the heel. If that is indeed what is ailing you the doctor you talk to about it will give you some simple medicine free fixes that will alleviate the pain.

Also she was diagnosed by her normal general practitioner, no specialist (podiatrist) needed.

I should mention that it was in fact Severs. Went to the podiatrist yesterday. I've been wearing splints since 4 PM yesterday. Not good with hardwood floors.

I didn't realize that.

I think I had that from standing on a wet, metal boat deck in cold(ish) weather all day. I was wearing improper for the time shoes that were putting lots of my weight on the heels. Pain in heels lasted for about a year, then slowly went away. I was wearing Spenco maximum arch support insoles for the most of that year as the arch support is so high, that is keeps heels almost floating above the insoles. Skating was pretty much impossible during that time for me as Spenco insoles were taking away instep depth and cause my skates to put pressure on my ankle bones. That was pretty painful in arches and balls of my feet, besides the discomfort in my ankles. Next time I going to fishing trip, I am wearing Timberlands with the Spenco insoles in...
