Hi, Im just starting hockey, and am wondering about holding the hockey stick. My right hand is my dominant, but I’m more comfortable holding the stick with my right hand on the bottom and left on the top. Will holding the stick like that hold me back as I progress?
Pulled circa early 1990's Bauer H1 Inline Skates out of the basement. The H1's could use upgraded wheels and bearings. The set up on the H1's is different than my son's Bauers. My son's have a post that goes through the chasis and bearing connecting to a screw on the other side holding the wheel in place. The H1's have a screw on each side that screws directly to the bearing. Anyone have any experience replacing the wheels and bearings? What size wheels, what bearings, what size posts do I need? Thanks

I'd like to open up conversation on good habits from members who sharpen regularly. I have had good luck with my edges on the ice, but certainly see room for improvement in the shop. I just switched to bladetech mirror ss blades, pleased after 1 skate.

A few questions I have for the pros:

Can I expect to have 1 setup that gives balanced edges on both skate holders?

If I mark the bottom of my blade, should I expect this mark to be cleared by the first past, if it does not entirely clean should I adjust?

After how many passes should you check the edge to notice a difference in your setup?

	Thanks!

	Hey All,

Been playing forever (seems) and now I seem to have a lot of time on my hands😠. Historically, I'm a defenceman, and in college it was all about top-shelf wristers and boomers for me. That's where I scored...consistently. Now I'm playing in several leagues. Some are fairly intense and I can still shoot "my style." Some are more "rec-level" and the last thing I want to do is hurt somebody! I am trying to use this downtime we all seem to have to strengthen my weaker areas...for me...stickhandling, low corners, and 5 hole! Stickhandling...I got that...a lot of..uhhh...stickhandling practice. That one is a pretty straight return...I'm doing it a lot...it's getting better. On the other hand...I have a mat...a net...and a backstop in the garage. The net has a tarp on the front...cutouts for the corners and 5-hole. I can hit corners high all day with my eyes closed. I cannot consistently keep pucks low, and I can't hit the 5 for money! I'm all around it...inches...It's driving me nuts. I'm trying to follow through as close to the ice (ground) as possible, rolling my hands, transferring weight, back foot, front foot, being mindful of mechanics...I am getting better over the past few days keeping them low-er...but zero accuracy.

Any suggestions short of asking my teammates to watch what I am doing and coach me...cuz that's gonna be a while it seems.
Thanks folks!

Ive been skating all my life ever since I was 3 (Im 16 now). Recently I found out the cause of pain that was happening on my hamstrings and why the were to tight after going balls out for 30 seconds. (Latic Acid). But when i fixed my problem my thighs haven been starting to get tighter and more tired which would never happen to me. Im not sure what the problem is, my team works out 2 times a week and personally I go an extra 2-3 times by myself. Does anyone know a way to get rid of this feeling and how so?

For a person that is beginning to try to practice outside edge stops, what sharpening radius would you recommend for a 200lb skater? I started with 9/16" and then went to 5/8" and I still get instant dig into the ice unless I go very slow and put my stopping foot in back of my lead foot in a T with basically no attack angle (just enough to get the outside edge)There's some small details I wonder about like should I let my boot/ankle be slightly relaxed or super stiff? Straight ankle vs letting the ankle lead or letting the edge lead. I feel better when my skates arent cranked down but there's a point where the skate reacts to the pressure from the ice and wants to go a certain way...Is this something I try to control consciously or just let things go how they may? When I watch vids on Youtube it appears some skaters can drift across the ice w slide stop with their skates pretty much perpendicular to the ice. Does it take a shallow hollow to be able to do this? Thanks anyone for any tips. I get super choppy (chatter) from my outside edge when doing two foot stops also. I should probably figure that problem out first. I noticed a different person this happening to as well. Didn't seem to catch the attention of their coach (skating lesson session at rink). I don't recall having this issue when I was younger. Now it seems I'm always fighting that edge as it does not behave in a predictable or smooth way. Catches like crazy. Like stutters and skips along the ice with the Z pattern left on the ice.

Almost feels like I want the holder moved out a little so I can get my weight on the inside of the runner more.. almost as if the sweet spot in angle my boot won't let me reach.. if that makes any sense. Like by the time I can get on my outside edge the angle is too aggressive. Maybe it's all in my head. I have about 4 public skates under my belt and pond skating over the winter. Been getting my skates to fit properly too. New skates, back to skating again. Two different battles that are interconnected. My skates are bakes and punched, pretty great fit almost past all physical pain of starting over again. All advice appreciated. I'm new to this forum so I hope I posted in the right place!

When I'm practicing my sauce passes on my training tiles at home, I sauce like a pro. Completely smooth, the puck just floats. It starts flat, saucers through the air perfectly, and lands completely flat. I'm also getting better at putting it exactly where I want to, and also getting it pretty high in the air even if I only sauce it a few feet ahead of me. But when I get on the ice, using all the same techniques and everything, I can't get the puck to sauce anywhere close to what I can do off ice. I don't understand it and it's quite frustrating. The puck wobbles, bounces when it lands, and I usually have to "shoot" it to get any kind of decent sauce to it. Forget about short sauces, it'll flip and tumble like punted football. Do you guys have any tips or suggestions? Anybody else experience this same thing?

I would like to find a simple, effective solution for filming my team's games. We use video for analyzing our players and game. Our current solutions are:

	1) filming with a smartphone by hand from the spectator stand - this works well but is very tiring and only works if we have a friend watching the game

	2) gopro on the glass behind the goalie - great for our goalie but hard to see plays, especially in the offensive zone

How is everyone else recording their games?

Have you tired the auto-cameraman solutions where the camera automatically follows the play (I've seen these online for soccer but never saw a hockey one)?

Does your rink have a good filming system that captures the entire rink?

Is there a simple solution to record from the bench (maybe a GoPro on a stand or 2x GoPros, one for each zone)?

	Thanks Everyone,

So i’m working on my slapshots without skates in a shooting room, and after awhile my lower back and hip starts to kill. Is this a form issue with my shot, or is it something else? I use the same stick as I do on the ice so it’s a bit long for dry land shooting and someone suggested that that could be the issue. Just curious on other people’s thoughts on this.

Curious as to what switching insoles would do to one's overall skating - like if you're used to using the stock insoles and you switched them out for the thick Shock Doctor's, would it throw you off big time? Since their more beefy all around would that increase thickness in the toe/midfoot/heel throw off your skating?

Or, if you're used to using Superfeet or the CCM high/medium/low arch, or any other aftermarket insoles for that matter, would it throw off your balance or make it harder to hit your edges or skate in general if you changed to a different insole?

Another example would be if someone just skated the stock insoles for years then suddenly dropped a pair of Superfeet in would it make it almost impossible to skate/maneuver?

I know it would for me.

I figured now that the forum software has been upgraded and we no longer need to use IMG tags to post photos in the new editor, I'd post a new tutorial.

It's pretty simple now. You literally just need to paste an image URL into the editor, and it will render it for you. To be clear, this means you must upload your image to an image hosting site. I recommend https://imgur.com as it is the easiest to use and doesn't require you to sign up for an account (though I recommend that, as it would allow you to delete the images, put them into albums, etc.).

Simply drag the image from your desktop onto the main imgur page and it will upload it automatically. Once its uploaded, just right-click and select "Copy Image Address". Paste that into the thread, and voila! Easy!

In addition, this also works with things like YouTube or Vimeo URLs, etc. They should all auto-render in the editor box.

If the picture you want to include in your post is already hosted somewhere on the internet, it's very easy to include the picture in the post. Just click on the button of the picture (underneath and to the left of the smiley button) just above the blank space for your post. A window will then pop up asking for the location of the picture. Just pop the address of the picture into the box and click "ok".

If the picture you want to share is located on your computer, you will need to find somewhere to host it for you. Places like Photobucket are free and very easy to use. Once you have it uploaded, simply follow the directions above.
