Is there an alternative to the expensive BladeMaster height comparator tool to find the center of the wheel during sharpening blades. I have heard of some using a digital height gauge, or is there a generic height gauge that does the same trick. Post any pics or do tell tricks to speed up the sharpening process without losing quality. I do use the Blackstone tri-lie holder with the edge-pro level gauge and I do get a good even level finish, but I want to be more accurate on the first pass especially with the Flat Bottom V (FBV) cuts. Also a tool like that would help me in determining slightly bent blades and making corrections if necessary.

The only thing lacking on the old-style shoulder pads is spinal protection. At least today's Sherwood 5030 have a spine protector instead of lacing on the back.

I'm no doctor but I'm pretty sure that's from the laces on eyelets 1/2 digging into your leg when you flex forward. It looks very similar to what I had. It takes a couple months to heal, a week or two won't do it, doesn't matter what you do to your skate it'll flare up. What you need to do is relieve the pressure from that location. lace extenders is one way, skipping the 1st eyelet is another, idea is the same. What doesn't work is more material in that area, as it'll just add pressure.

The local Can Tire had some left so I picked one up. Still not sure if I NEED it, but I have other convenient uses for it, so I figured why not. Now if only I can shin pads for refs in town, which is a whole different ball game lol.

I've always seen photos of previous years but could never make it. This one is actually accessable and looks like something i'd jump on board for.

I once did this to my Bauer Flexlite skates to alleviate lace bite. I stuck self-adhesive closed-cell foam weather-stripping strips so they would fall on either side of the tendon. You can find different widths and thicknesses of it at hardware stores. Just make sure you choose the closed-cell foam because the open-cell stuff is not firm enough.

can't agree enough. I hate the tacky sticks, especially since I take faceoffs. I feel like I can reposition my hands so much quicker with matte

Just an update for those interested. The Tour Medium fits me perfectly...5'9"/165/33"w/40"chest. Comes down to the top of my pants and I'm wearing suspenders over it. Protection where I need it...zero bulk. A little warm but...what isn't?
