Ok... two competing concepts for the same issue... Coronavirus! In one corner, hailing from Bauer.. the Bauer Face Shield. In the other corner, hailing from CCM... the CCM Game On Face Mask! Two very different solutions and to me this speaks to the issues we are facing. Below you will find pictures of each but here are the pros and cons as I see them... In the end everyone will decide for themselves what they like better, what their own levels of risk are, etc. Discuss.... Bauer CCM Pros Visibility excellent. Breathability – does not cover the nose. Lightweight. Cons Flimsy clear vinyl. Expected hard plastic. Bottom spaces of Concept III mask remain open. No protection of nasal particles. Only designed for Bauer Concept III mask. Cannot use cage. Pros Covers the nose. Superior protection from transmission Can fit Bauer or CCM masks. Can fit on clear plastic cages or wire cages. Cons Harder to breathe – nose is covered. Impacts lower peripheral visibility. Mask tighter – chin strap may need adjusting. Bauer: CCM

The masks (none of them) are designed to protect you from COVID. The point is to prevent possible spread by containing YOUR vaporized droplets.

I got my UA mask today, and I gotta say, it's very comfortable and allows better breathing/ventilation than many masks I've worn thus far. Also very moisture/sweat resistant. Much pricier than some other options though.

I played with the CCM Game On for the first time yesterday. it blows the Bauer splash guard away. I has zero fogging issues and found it comfortable to wear. I am wearing mine with the CCM full shield. not the biggest fan of that but only because I'm a Bauer cage wearer. I don't feel great about skating with the cage right now though because at least the visor offers some protection from droplets entering through my eyes.

In this pic the boots do not have any holders attached so its showing heel to toe in length.

Howdy, Just looking at the pictures, for a half shield I think I'd just wear the UA mask. I don't see any particular advantage to the CCM half-shield setup. Mark

Part of the reason for the lack of general knowledge is that most of these processes are proprietary, its basically each companies secret sauce, so they want to keep that information internal and provide retailers basic general information. You also have to consider that most staff working at stores aren't educated on custom skates since the number of custom skates sold is very minimal compared to the abundance of customers buying off the shelf retail skates. Not to mention many employees of the larger stores which offer custom skates just don't really care all that much. As someone who has owned multiple pro shops I can tell you that not a single one of my staff truly ever understood how each custom skate differs even though I provided them with literature, videos, and even spent time trying to educate them. I was the only person who could handle these questions which is ludicrous considering I am the owner of the stores. But, back to your initial question... Bauer and CCM take your measurements and basically grab the components to match the specific sizing and assemble the boot. After assembling the boot they 3D print a cast of your feet and insert that into the skates. They then apply high heat and pressure the skates to form them to your foot. How much pressure? A lot. Specifically how much, no clue, that's proprietary. How much heat? A lot. Specifically how much, no clue, that's proprietary. How does TRUE make their custom skates? Depends on who you ask. TRUE used to create a custom last based on your specifications and then build the skate around the last. This allowed them to make many adjustments to the skate as they are building it. It's a very hands-on process which requires a lot of work and truthfully the end result is only as good as the person doing the work. We did a ton of TRUE customs and yes, there were times we had issues with skates being too big or had a holder that was not properly aligned and 99% of the time TRUE fixed the problem. There is only one customer I can think of that we couldn't satisfy and he had significant foot issues. That customer also tried custom CCM and Bauer skates and those also didn't work for him as well. My suggestion, give TRUE one more try to get it right. Provide them as much feedback as possible. The more information you provide the better understanding they have of what works and what doesn't. If that pair comes back wrong still then I would look into other options.

Try the 'Puck Stop Pro Shop' at Pirelli Rink in Franklin, I think they might do it.

They have a lot of veterans now with Spezza, Simmonds, Muzzin, Bogosian, Tavares, Brodie ect. on the roster, but perhaps they're hoping Thornton will be the vocal veteran that will convince the younger guys to play responsible team D.

I hope everything is OK, but you definitely did the smart thing by consulting with your cardiologist.

Thanks, ya the general overall grip wasn't up to par. It's a bad feeling. Like when I go and warm up with those single leg c-cuts (inside edge-outside edge). Just can't get the edge to grip on a "bad" sharpen, but maybe the outside edge is usually worse come to think of it.

I have always worn a neoprene sleeve on each knee for support. Its not a knee pad but des provide some cushion. Might want to give it a try.

Howdy, Played today (for the first time since... March? Holy crap was I horrible) with the UA mask. I honestly didn't notice it on the ice, other than that there was more sweat on my upper lip. Didn't seem to affect my ability to breathe well basically at all. On the bench, it was more of a hassle, because to drink you had to unclip the cage, pull down the mask, then drink. Then pull the mask back up (which is now looser / not the same feel as it was before, since you were screwing with it), and clip the mask straps back in. When I got home, I ordered the CCM mask. I figure it will have the good parts of the UA mask and still get out of the way better when I want a drink. Planning to use it with a cage, but also considering getting a fishbowl to maybe help with virus entering my eyes. Of course, there's basically zero studies out there on how much any of that matters, so its all a guess as to if that's reasonable, insane, etc. For you folks that have played with the Bauer thing... How's the fogging? I'd have guessed that would be the major "playability" drawback of that design. edit: One benefit of the UA mask vs. some others we have around is that it didn't turn into a disaster due to sweat. Yes, it got damp, but it still basically held its shape, etc. The other masks we have are either disposable or cotton-ish fabrics and I can't imagine they'd do well soaked in sweat. Mark

Some might recall I had three stents put in on March 2nd. Been a great recovery - lost 24 lbs and got my Ldl down to 25 - but now I am feeling some "stuff" when exercising. Weakness in left arm and chest "twinges." It might all be in my head because I am insane but after consulting with my cardiologist I am going in for another angiogram next Monday (10/26). Hoping its nothing. this time around.

Scottsdale Ice Den had a men's league player play who apparently knew he was sick and decided to skate anyway and infected 9 other players on his team. Moron.
