@Deker you are literally the poster child for why the internet is such a black hole for mature dialogue. -You know nothing about risk assessment -You know nothing about product management -You know nothing about business cases Yet you keep cutting and pasting the same arguments (feeble as they may be) and now have resorted to name calling because people disagree with you. People who know more than you about the topic. Since you are so infatuated with cups, I assume you wear that fancy carbon fiber one the pros switched to after Molina had his injury? How much of the general sports population wears that? If you are so convinced there is a market for this, then run with it. Come up with a business plan, do some basic prototyping, it's cheap as hell now with 3D printing and there are workspaces everywhere for startups. Throw it up on Kickstarter and follow your dream. Put you money where your mouth is and quit acting like an immature brat.

Grippers came in and I was able to test them out on the rink today. They hold true to their name and grip awesome! That said, the rink was also completely clean of any debris which may have contributed to some of the slide outs before. Either way, thank you guys for the recommendation. Think I found wheels for smooth concrete

Practice, game, pick up, stick and puck or even pond, this isn’t a game you approach casually. It’s a dangerous game and with one unlucky deflection, collision, at high speeds can be life altering. That’s why players must be mentally AWAKE and AWARE every time they step on the ice. Yes accidents happen, but thinking fast can keep you out of harms way. My heart hurts for this guy and his family. God be with them. 😔

I feel like I've suffered a head injury every time I click into this thread.

I'm about to buy one of these to keep myself safe for the next time I open this thread...

Honestly, if this is the sort of thing that keeps you up at night, do something about it. Don't clamor for someone else to take up your cause. You're either part of the solution or part of the problem.

Deker, please accept that this discussion has run its course. You asked if a different helmet could have prevented the tragedy. Many responded with "possibly, but with the extremely low probability, it doesn't appear to be a concern for manufacturers or the general hockey public" or something along those lines. That should be the end of it. Your constant repost of the same comments is the internet equivalent of a 4 year old constantly saying, "Why?" Please stop. Signed, The rest of us

CCM also used to have helmets with full ear protection. They were typically known as dorky helmets for little kids/new players. As has been discussed, simply having a more protective helmet available doesn't mean that they will be used.

How about the larger point. Why aren't people clamoring for better medical facilities in these areas or rinks?

I got a nice present in the mail today...my new blades profiled with Ellipse 1. I’m a 288 steel in a Shift holder, and thanks @KKSkate for doing great work on the profile. Coming from a Quad 1. Initial feedback (one skate, assorted edge work drills and then breakouts and zone entries) is that I feel a bit less on my tiptoes with this profile vs the quad, despite the same 20mm back Center, but I still feel like I can access the acceleration “zone” at the front of the blade. Stability was good, agility was maybe a touch less, but overcomeable with a bit more effort. Forwards and Backwards transitions and crossovers felt as good, but less feeling like I am as uncomfortably on my toes. no skating until Wednesday next week so won’t be able to really dial in my opinion until then. Nothing screams “give me my quad back” yet...

I saw pj kavaya the last time he was in the states and I don't recall him on the R1s. Maybe in Europe he's on them...? Anyway, I've definitely seen a few pairs in the southwestern tourneys, but not anywhere near as many as kryptoniums. I have a teammate on R1s and he likes them, but last week he cut hard and a huge chunk of the upper plastic piece cracked off. He was able to post the rest of the game and they're under warrantee still, but it's not fun to see, and who knows if that could have broken in a different spot and taken him down hard. I recall that with sprungs Kieth says to make sure to hydrate the plastic so that it stays strong. I wonder if the same might apply for R1s. We're on the desert in Phoenix AZ, so I try to take care of the sprungs. Not sure about the Marsblade plastic polymer, maybe it dries out and becomes more brittle

There have been 2 careers ended by fluke pucks near the ear. There have been a stunning number of careers ended due to concussions, and many more that should have been. Ask Marc Savard and Paul Kariya how they recovered from concussions.

Found these on google. They are in Swedish but really cool anyhow! Thought someone may find them neat http://malungsforetag.se/foretag/tillverkning/sport-fritid/jofa/jofa-volvo/jofa-volvo-hockey/

Most of the greatest skaters since the 90's have worn the "7K" style shin, and McD's one of them. It's the classic Jofa shin without the Hyper-X feature. It looks like it dates back to '81 or '82, with some tweaks coming in the following years. It's been a relatively stable piece since 1990, with minor variations. I'm not sure which version McDavid's got, but it's easy to see it's that lineage from the profile of the shin just below the knee cap. It's a little old (2018) but this picture shows that at that point he might have still been using 7Ks, but you can just see how they have that hd foam upper shin strip where the Hyper-X piece would be. CCM's been tinkering with that area the last few years, but it used to just be 7K or 8K style.

For anyone reading this in the future, as there seems to be very little information out there on the Peakspeed lineup: I went with the 7700s, and after a couple of small, resolved issues, am quite happy with them. The fit, to me, is extremely similar to the G75 XI (blue piping, not green). Coming out of Jetspeeds that I was in last season, they feel quite similar, but with more forward flex and a slightly lower ankle (I drop an eyelet in the Jetspeed, not in the Peakspeed), and are roomier in the forefoot - slightly wider, slightly more volume from bottom to top. Now, something that should be said - I referee. I am often in my skates for long periods of time. Using this week as an example: On Monday I was in them for 3 hours; all but 15 minutes of that was skating/standing on ice, I'll be in them 5 hours on Saturday and 3 hours on Sunday as well as 90 minutes each Tuesday through Friday. The perfect fit for me reffing is different than the perfect fit for me playing. If I was only playing, I'd definitely still be in the jetspeeds. But they weren't going to cut it long term reffing, they just pinched my feet too much after the first game. So I like the slighty roomier feel. Somewhat similar to the Tacks I tried on in the store, but the tacks felt like being in cement; wayyyyy too stiff with no flex available. The Peakspeeds are definitely stiff, but I'm still able to roll my ankle all around. I did have the Peakspeeds profiled to 11', like the old Grafs have always been. I had two issues with the skates, both have been resolved. Footbed and Heel lock. The stock, foam footbed in my previous Graf Skates - going back to those made in Switzerland - was phenomenal. Really, I loved them. I even used them in my CCM skates. The ones that came with the Peakspeeds, and this may have been a mistake as it was prior to Vaughn buying them and QC wasn't all that great from what I understand, looked the same but were nothing but rivet covers. The foam was not rigid whatsoever; I may as well have used a cotton rag instead of them. I reached out to Graf (Vaughn), asking about it. They sent me this footbed. This solved the Heel Lock problem that I had. This footbed was much more substantial than even my old footbeds, I'm thrilled with it. There was a small piece of molded plastic/fake leather that was sticking up above the ankle pad on the top of the boot. It was rubbing a very small part of my ankle raw; you could tell it was from a mold and just went a little bit too far. I just cut it with a scissors - we're talking about 1/2 mm here - and the problem was solved My only complaint left about them is that they weren't using the green logo at this time. That has been resolved. One other thing: I had an issue. I emailed Graf (Vaughn). Their reply was so over-the-top, out of their way to make me happy. If I ever win the lottery, I'm heading to their HQ and dropping a boatload of money on a custom skate and custom Eagles, based on this experience alone. Definitely happy to support a small business here.

As I mentioned before, it sometimes takes a tragedy to elicit change. Would this helmet still be considered "dorky" if Timur Faizutdinov had worn it and he was alive today? Why do you wear jocks? There is a very small chance you will be hit there (I have not been hit there in over a decade of hockey). You wear a jock IN CASE you will be hit there, however small chance that may be. That helmet does look outdated, but with today's technology they could come up with something occupying much less space but still providing protection in that area. After Bill Masterton died in 1968 from not wearing a helmet, it did take a long time for helmets to catch on. It took over 10 years. And the reason is because there were stubborn bull headed people like in this thread saying that it was just a freak accident and that it would never happen to them. If people from Bauer and CCM are reading this thread, YOU are the people from preventing them to research better and safer helmets for whatever reason you may have (perhaps you care more about "looking" like a hockey player than actually "being" a hockey player, I've seen alot of those). In my experience, the more you care about how you "appear", the more you suck at hockey, just my personal experience. A fact, Sidney Crosby keeps his ear guards on...
