  1. I took a chance on Prostockhockeysticks in summer 2021 and haven't looked back.

    Two key reasons:

    1. Seems like stick prices keep going up every year at retail
    2. No more Bauer P14 or similar at retail

Coming from custom CCM Trigger 2s, I was super happy with how the first stick played. I'd even go as far as saying it had a little more pop in the shots than the Trigger so I went ahead and ordered 5, and recently went in on another order of 10 since it gets cheaper the more you buy. Value-wise, if I order 5, I can get two for the price of one top end retail. You also don't need to order 5 of the same, which is nice.

If anyone's curious this is my config:

    • RH P14, 70 Flex
    • Red Line 375G (also ordered a 350g which I haven't tried yet)
    • Rounded Square Low Kick
    • Grip with Basketball texture
    • Z-tac blade finish

For what it's worth, the last high end retails I used were the 1X Lite, 2S, Trigger 2, and Jetspeed and it plays better than all of them IMO.

  2. Went from custom CCM Trigger 2's and ordered a single Redline 375g (P14/70 flex). It broke in the blade after ~4 months of playing 2-3 times a week, but honestly thought it would break sooner with how whacks it took. Balance and weight feels great, and shoots with a real nice kick. It took about a game or two to get used to it but after that, the Trigger 2's felt like relics, so I'm pretty happy with them. Placed an order for 5 sticks last week, pretty excited to get them. I've been using a 2S Pro while I wait, and it's okay, but I think the price:value ratio is much better with PSH so I think I'll be sticking to these for a while.

  3. Got these skates a couple years ago and noticed something funny going out with my outsole when I got a sharpening. Looks like the outsole is cracking and starting to separate from the boot. Not really impressed with the quality of Bauer's products these days, 1X Lite, 1S stick, now these skates. Coming from One95s, which I had for a good 7 years, to these, starting to really turn me off from Bauer. I've been mostly away from around here / gear industry for a while so I'm not completely up to date on what's happening these days. Is this a pretty common issue with the 1X skates and can anything be done to repair or are these fubar?

What do you mean the toe busted on the 1S? I thought that Jelly was supposed to keep that blade fresh for a “long time”. Loved the 16 1X and 1st gen 1N. Just picked up a new retail 1N 2nd gen for half price so I’ll see how that performs and holds up

The toe split open. The blade itself is amazing.

  5. Broke mine in around 6 games. Took a slash on the bottom of the stick and it snapped in the top 1/3 of my stick.

It's light which is nice but it felt unbalanced in how light the bottom of the stick + blade was. All it did was essentially take away from puck feel and I had a tough time controlling the puck with the stick.

Regular 1x was so much better and I definitely wouldn't grab another one. I've switched to 1S since but the toe on that busted within 4 games. The only thing really holding me to Bauer right now is the P14 curve but I'm at the point where I'm willing to take a flyer on another brand. I'm thinking it's the perfect time to jump ship to CCM when the new Jetspeed comes out... Hopefully the Parise is similar enough..

  6. Played last night with the inserts in 1X skates without the shim and Superfeet carbon insoles. My main concern was that I'd get a cramping feeling in my toes from having the insert straighten my toes out but nothing like that, pretty comfortable, though I can still curl my toes just fine. Didn't really notice a difference so will need to try with the shims.

  7. my main issue with the speed plates is the arch piece, it digs right into my arches and kills everytime i take a turn so i end up reverting to superfeet carbons..

too bad because the on-ice feel of the speed plates are unbelievable.. has anybody run into the arch-digging problem and found a solution? i've tried re-baking them a few times to try and flatten the arch as much as i could but no luck there

I did mine at home. very easy.  just make sure you WATCH them through the oven window.  AS SOON as the chromatic ink disappears, remove them.

OR.... a hair dryer at close rage will also soften them up enough to make minor adjustments, such as curled toe, or a pinch in the arch.

Yup. Did mine at home as well. Super easy. Do what zorlac says.

good to know thanks! what temperature did you guys heat the oven to?

  9. Ive just found the my skates seem to slide out laterally far easier then ever before. For the guys in Coquitlam I have been skating at the main the past two day (about 8 hours total) and the ice hasn't been great so I'm gonna give it one last shot tomorow at a different rink. Been using fbv for well over 6 months now and just find my skates felt they had more grip. I just felt more secure. I have a feeling I'll go back and forth a couple times, but as of now I prefer the Fbv (not saying it is better or worse, just my personal opinion)

jbyun, what do your sharpen your skates at with fbv an what do you sharpen them at with bfd?

FBV I use 90/75 and for BFD I use X7. I've tried 100/50 for FBV but didn't really like it as much.

  10. So I tried out the BFD at the hockey shop yesterday after two sharpeners told me they preferred it to the FBV because it felt more natural. I can see where they're coming from, as it felt like my feet definitely slid around more (I got an X6, which was supposed to be the same as 100/75). Didn't get as much grab in turns, and after five hours on them just felt really uneasy. I'm on the ice for another 5 hours tonight so I'm hoping it will not fail me, but in the future I'm sticking with FBV. Definitely prefer the increase in bite on my blades.

I found BFD had a lot more grip than FBV. There were times with FBV where I wasn't sure if my edges were going to grip or not.

Here http://blackstonesport.com/technology.cfm they say When trying the FBV, a skater should understand that the feel on the first use will be different, but then after a few minutes of warm-up, the transition will be effortless and the advantages and speed of the FBV will be apparent quickly. My personal experience - this is very true.

I've been using FBV since before it was available to the general public. I'm well passed the transition.. BFD is much better in my opinion.
