i just looked at the steel very carefully and this is in fact think my son's problem...the toe is very rockered now
ty smcgreg for pointing me in this direction
Yes, the Mako I experience was horrible for me. After I got the new Mako II's first thing i did was send my steel into Noicing for a profile. I kept the pitch the same. It was amazing. The pitch of the skate isn't the problem really, i love it. It was when i went to get them profiled and sharpened by someone that never saw the skate (and probably wasn't good to begin with) they killed them, especially the toe. It was a nightmare.
All good now though. Love these skates, holder, steel, pitch and all.

anyone know if easton will offer replacement mako 2 footbeds?
-
I've been skating on my Mako 2s now for almost 2 weeks. I can say that it is a nice improvement over the originals. The color makes them automatically better lol. Also, it is definitely stiffer than the original makos. It's not that much stiffer but it's a nice upgrade. I also like the liner inside. Plus, the no mako bumps are huge for me.
I got my steel profiled at a 13ft radius recently but i think a 9ft radius would serve me better. Not sure yet though.
My buddy got the same pair as me (going on my recommendation) but now the poor bastard got relocated to south america. Anyone interested in this skate in 8D check out the sell section! i put it up for sale.

so they are being sold? Any articles on this? Whose buying ?Will be business as usual. Won't be bought by a competitor.
Ahhh what's going to happen to the makos ?!
-
I know the rule of thumb is to wait 24 hours after baking to skate on new skates but realistically could I bake the skates in the morning, put them in the freezer for a bit and then skate on them that night? I won't be getting my new makos till Monday morning and I have a game that night.
Is it really a bad idea ?
-
Good news for those who don't like the aggressive pitch of the Makos, the STEP version is neutral, so that will remove 1 degree. No more having to profile a reverse pitch to back off on the forward feel. But even if with the STEPS one feels too far forward, there is plenty of height on the STEPs to profile as well.
When are those coming out?
-
So you're saying no ankle lock issues? That was a problem with my first makos. Also, can you tell if it's stiffer ?
-
It's crazy that I'm seeing more and more people switch out tuuks for cxnsYes, the holes line up perfectly. Just had some CXNs put on my nexus skates.
Who woulda thought

yah they line up fineI searched through the thread, but couldnt find a definite answer: Does the LS edge holder line up perfectly with the cxn holder? Im trying out a pair of APX2's and its cheaper for me to just try out the skate with a cxn holder than getting the steel profiled.
And does anyone know when replacement extendon guards will be available? If theyre cheap enough, Id like to get a mako II guard to slap on there to eliminate some of the orange overload.

Are they stiffer ?
-
I saw them today and they look real nice. Tongue looks good and they may feel a tad stiffer than the original ones.
Has this been confirmed? Is it really stiffer?

Those measurements are in inches right? What type of material should I use? I bought a polyethylene cutting board and cut it for the shims on my roller blades, but that was also a huge shim (8mm or about 5/16"). I could always order a thin piece on Amazon, but if theres something else I can buy locally thatll be easier.
If I decide to go the profile route. Do you think they would be able to just look or measure the Makos, and get the vapors to match it? I dont have a lot of faith in the people who sharpen my skates - which is why Id still probably feel better with shims.
If you're not playing in a major season (seeing as we are approaching summer) id try getting used to the pitch. Get them profiled by someone you trust
I went through such hell with my makos last year adjusting pitch, adding in tuuks, etc. when my mako ll comes in I'm getting my profile done by noicing and that's it.
-
Ideally, yes. But, in my case it's not really an option at the moment.
Well, find someone. You're about to drop close to a grand on skates I'd reckon it would be best to be as accurate as possible.
-
Anyone have suggestions on getting good tracings? I've been able to do my right foot fine, but having trouble getting accuracy on my left.
You should have someone do this for you

waiting for the mako 2 to come out. In the meantime, if I can get used to a higher pitch itll make transitioning easier once I finally do make the switch. I also want to get my rollerblades to match the pitch of my ice skates, because right now when I go back and forth between one and the other I have a lot of trouble. I know some of it is unavoidable because in general going back and forth is hard for people like me, but if I can at least get the pitch the same, it should make it easier.
Send your blade in to jimmy and get the pitch done for your vapors. By time the mako 2 comes out you'll know if you like the pitch or not

So makos have a 3 degree pitch? Or do they have a 3 degree pitch higher than normal? and is normal 0?
And I thought vapors were a 12' vs 9' on makos? I thought I remember reading that when reading up on the makos? So really the only difference is the pitch then? Isnt there something else different that would force people to use a different sharpening when switching from vapors to makos?
Isn't it at least 100+ to get skates profiled? And what would the different be between getting skates profiled, and getting shims? Also - when you say see if theyll profile them for free - wouldnt you want to try the stock profile before switching things up?
I was thinking of just getting the pitch changed on my vapors, so I could see if I would like the different pitch of the makos - is that a good idea or no?
Lastly, when you have a more aggresive skate like the mako - would that mean more weight is on the back or front of the skate? Obviously it would result of having you bend over more and in a stance ready to accelerate, but wouldnt that mean youll be using your heels more too?
They have a 3degree pitch from neutral, so from 0. Most bauer skates come with 9' radius. LS3 steel comes with 10' radius. Yes, the difference is the pitch and it is a significant one. Skate profile prices depend on location but usually hover around $15-$25. Noicing ( a reputable mail in service) can have your skates back to you for around $31 with a profile, sharpening.
I would try stock first, yes. Try getting you steel pitched forward 3 degrees, it will make you lean over the toes of your skates. It's a bit harder on your knees since it forces you to bend your knees at all times. On turns it does feel like you are pushing off your heels more, yes. But that's just from my experience.

I wish we could see more pics of the Mako 2's. Shouldn't they start marketing them soon?

Is there any updates from anyone switching from CXN to Tuuk Edge holders?
I've done it. I'm still undecided whether or not it was truly a good idea. I did it because at the time my blades got so screwed up (trying to fix the aggressive pitch) and there weren't any replacement ES4 blades out.
Truthfully, if i had to do it again i'd prob keep the CXN and get a new pair of steel from noicing with some of the pitch dialed back.

where the pics?

Yes i understand all that but the poster made it seem like it is months and months away.
-
Really? That's sounds a bit ridiculous. If the mako 2s aren't gearing up for release in the next 2 months why wouldn't they stock the originals ? That's bad business.
-
Anyone have a list of all the guys in the nhl rocking these?
-
Upright is ok but the guys that bend forward at the waist a lot have trouble because the same posture will put their shoulders out past their toes and take them off balance.
and that was me.

I switched to a tuuk holder. i still would like a +1 degree pitch though. need to try and get that done.

Yeah I know about Hockey X... thanks! The problem with Hockey X is that they don't carry Easton skates, so I have to drive to San Jose and go to the Hockey Giant.
Was it so bad that it almost ruined the skates? Thanks!
