  1. Broke up with the girlfriend today. 3 years, we live together, etc... just kind of slowly fell out of love. Has literally never happened to me before. There's no animosity for her, I just realized I wasn't happy anymore and it was rubbing off on her. So I had the conversation with her, like an adult. And holy shit. Apparently I'm a terrible human being. I knew it was going to be hard, but it was the right thing to do for both of us. Relationships are bullshit sometimes. I don't hate her and would like to someday be friends with her but goddamn. Tell me I'm not the only one to go through this.

So my dealer told me I've got a leaking head gasket (09 Infiniti G37, 60k miles).  They quoted me $4500 to fix it and since I'm about 6 months from trading it in for something new, that doesn't seem to make sense.  I've seen a bunch of different sealer products (like this: https://shop.advanceautoparts.com/p/bluedevil-head-gasket-sealant-38386/7120032-P) that one can use to fix the issue (at least temporarily) but I'm not really mechanical like that so the instructions confuse me.

Do I have to clear the cooling system before putting in the sealant? If so, how do I do that? The guy at Auto Zone told me I have to change the oil after using this type of product, is that correct?  Would a mechanic be willing to run the sealant process for me? What should something like that cost?

If I do decide to have it fully repaired, is $4500 a reasonable number?

    Thanks for the help

FWIW that price is super high. I had to get my headgaskets replaced on my old Forester which is a notorious and expensive problem with subaru's due to the boxer engine. I paid $1700 for the whole job including having the heads machined. Take it to a mechanic that specializes in Japanese cars.

I had my annual work review. I received a salary increase of 16%. It's great to be appreciated for the work I do and what I bring to the table.

Congrats! I just got a promotion from assistant supervisor to supervisor and I only got a 10% bump. Haha.

    Howdy,

Well, I have an actual venting item.  Two even!  And no, its got nothing to do with helmet ratings... :-)

I don't get guys that feel like they need to fight in beer league.  Tonight in a D league game (here we have B through E) one of our defensemen made a reasonable aggressive move and stepped into a guy, stick on puck, knocking the puck away and knocking the guy down.  Ref later called it a trip.  Good enough.  It really looked more like two average skill guys at best coming together on the ice.

The guy gets up off the ice, throws his gloves down, reaches over the top of our guy's helmet, and pulls it forward off his head.  I can only assume that was so that when he started throwing punches he wouldn't hit his cage.  As this is going on, he gets partially tackled / bear hugged by his own teammate, everyone crashes to the ice, with this idiot still trying to throw punches.  Our guy is now cut on his head, from getting his helmet dragged off.  Refs pretty much just stand back and watch, but the guy's teammate pulls him off, etc.

I just don't get the motivation there.  I mean... I get becoming seriously pissed.  Fine.  Yell at the guy and call him a cocksucker.  Hell, two hand him across the chest in the heat of the moment, whatever.  But if you've got enough rational thought left to intentionally drop the gloves, then recognize that you don't want to punch a cage, then pull the helmet off... Then I'm sorry.  Beer league is not for you and you should no longer have the option to play it.

My next vent occurred about five minutes later.  Everyone had adrenaline up, nobody knows what's going on (this is the first "real fight" I've seen or heard about in this league).  Things seem to be calmed down and the other team's captain is talking to the ref, asks how this is going to work, what the specific penalties are, etc.  The ref apparently takes this as giving him lip or something, but rolls his eyes and disdainfully answers the guy.  We're just about getting ready to drop the puck and the other captain _agrees with the ref_ and says "yeah, everyone saw it".  Ref looks at him and (disdainfully again) says "you're done, get off the ice".  Captain is incredulous, not sure he understood and says "what?", then the ref repeats.  The captain at this point looses it some and starts with "are you fucking kidding me?" and the ref says "that's another game".  The captain then progresses to colorful names / etc.  Its a shit show.  And its not the first time this has happened with this particular ref.  He's got a pattern of escalating incidents instead of defusing them and his "style" doesn't match any other ref or the league in general.  I don't get it.  Everyone is there to have a good time.  Its also hockey.  If someone comes over and calls you a motherfucker... Fine.  Toss his ass.  But some dude saying "are you fucking kidding me?" to the air in general after you've just made a piss poor call (or even if you got it right) needs to result in you being the adult in the situation.

    Mark

    I know that feel.

Ref in my league tacks on additional minors if anyone asks what the offending player was called for, even if it's the captain asking. It's ridiculous.

  5. If the helmet doesn't fit right when you make contact there's slippage. The helmet is touching the surface you're coming into contact with, your head is not. So the helmet begins to move in a direction related to the type of contact it's making while your head is still moving in the direction of your initial trajectory prior to contact. This obviously changes the transference of force. Which type of transference of force is better or worse is debatable. The problem is unless they're using the same helmets on two headforms for a head it fits and one it does not, the data essentially useless. All it tells you is "hey, if your head happens to be this shape, we think this one is better". They flat out ignored a pretty important variable. Whether or not the helmet moves when it's hit.

there's also been former big pharma CEOs who've acknowledged the link between vaccines and autism and people claim that there was tons of studies and research proving the link but big pharma had it all destroyed. not saying i believe in it, but big pharma makes billions on vaccines and so do doctors. so who's got more of a reason to lie? the people making billions off vaccines or the people who are claiming they cause autism who make no money off it either way?

Doctors don't make money on vaccines. They make more money treating for the illnesses the vaccines prevent.

As far as the VT study goes, they measure the transfer of force to the headform the helmet is on. They use the same headform for every test regardless of the head shape the helmet was meant for.

If you've ever had on a helmet that doesn't actually conform to your head you will immediately realize why this is a problem.

The study tells absolutely nothing worthwhile about helmets that don't fit the headform they used. The helmets that fit it well score well, the helmets that do not score poorly.

I hear you. I have been looking at both the STX Surgeon and the True XC9 for quite a while. Right now my main stick is the Warrior Covert QRL, which I love, but I want to try the other two out so bad.

Yeah. I can't wait to actually play the QRL.  The QRL3 was great but then the HD1 went on sale and I got spoiled by how light it is. Haha.

But what a good stable it is. And you can never really have too many sticks.

Yeah, fml, when I picked up the QRL I checked out an STX Surgeon RX2 and now I can't stop thinking about it. I think I have a problem... haha.
