  1. I have heard from friends in Edmonton and a few other areas in Canada that, while most associations are refraining from making any verbal or written commitments, they are probably going to start on time. Basically, in places where the numbers are low and school is anyway going to open fully, they will probably start youth hockey on time, but they're not announcing it for many and various reasons. I'm in NY and we're preparing for a move to PA soon, so we'll see. My kids are still too young for youth hockey anyhow.

  2. So in terms of the last, they are building supreme and vapors on the same lasts now? Rather than a vapor/supreme/nexus last, they have a last for each of fit 1,2,3 and they make vapor and supreme on that last? I guess some of the other variables are what makes the difference between Supreme and Vapor.

  3. I went from the e6 to the 28. It was weird playing d with the 28 but I liked the toe actually, just had to really rearrange my shot to keep it low from the point. The 28 took a long time for me to get used to coming from the e6, but I supposed it depends more on your style of play and mechanics than anything else.

Ended up going back to the e4 cammaleri, which I still have 2 of, and the 88, which I like a lot. I use the Sherwood 77 Coffey for outdoor roller as I have a bunch of those in abs blades.

  4. I wonder if this will just phase out the Nexus line. They only made 3 models this past run. While they increase Vapor and Supreme models, they're diminishing Nexus production. My guess is that Supreme fit 3 (if you can widen the heel sufficiently) will replace it. I remember once seeing that Bauer claims 15% of skaters are a Nexus fit. If they can get that group into Supremes then they can probably nix the Nexus line altogether. I might be missing a few components in this equation since I haven't had a chance to try the new line yet

buying a new house and moving with a 3 month old is awful.    Like getting kicked in the junk with steel toe clown shoes awful

Haha We're preparing for this hopefully in the next few weeks. Except in addition to the 3month old we have a 3 year old and a 2 year old... That's gonna be a party

  6. I mean it's not a huge deal. From what I understand the tape is made in wide rolls and then cut into inch-wide rolls. Cutting into half inch rolls is not exactly revolutionizing the tape industry.

Personally, I like the half inch because the knob is the only tape I use on my stick (gotta shave off those few ozs) and I just found it more comfortable on my wrist. I'd buy this just because it's cheaper than gaffer's by a lot

  7. That's a great idea. Personally I don't know that I need it, but for $20 or in that range I probably would use it anyway.

I think there's a lot of folks who would feel more comfortable going to True retail with something like that.

I might be one of the few that don't care what my skates look like lol. They could be purple, yellow, hot pink, or puke green as long as I can skate fast and comfortably for hours.

In theory I agree, but when I look at old pictures of myself in 90s/2000s roller hockey pants, jerseys and gloves I question that. Garbage pail kid jerseys in Puke green and pink. Yeah, I can't really pull that off anymore.

It seems like the black out option is only for custom. I prefer it to the blue, but either way the TF9 is looking like my next skate

  8. Sure. You could also wash your hands. Anyway, in my area that's not the issue at this point. We got hit first and hardest, but by mid April the major wave was mostly done. Most people I know already got it months ago and most recovered. Unfortunately the are still a few people in the hospital that I know.

  9. Here is NY there was definitely 70+ days of lockdown and there would still be a lockdown if the govt has their druthers. The only reason not is because people simply stopped listening (and the George Floyd protests only accelerated that).

Anyway, 70 days indoors makes health worse? Maybe yes, maybe no. Small apartment? Brooklyn, buddy, I'm familiar. Could be something else, sure. But it could be the masks. I'm just trying to point out that there is risk in everything and the best way to navigate risk is to be very clear about it and then with the factors and make a decision. Everyone is going to weigh and decide differently, but the facts should be clear to everyone. If we list the pros and cons we'll probably all agree.

Personally, I think that anyone who wouldn't play without a splash guard shouldn't play with one either. I don't think there is enough there to sway the decision. And anyone who would play without a splash guard is more than welcome to play with one if they so desire. But in reality once the fogging starts, I doubt most people will keep using them. Then what? Then you have a bunch of folks who are already playing, take off theiir guard and say the hell with it. That's why I don't think this should really be a factor in the decision to play or not.

And driving with N95... You'd be surprised how many people I see driving alone wearing masks in the car. I don't get it either. Even outdoors wearing a mask is of minimal value.

Why on Earth would CCM create unbranded steel for LS Edge?

Bauer bought Mission/Itech for IP, facial, baselayer and roller hockey.  Eliminating a competitor was also a bonus.  Mission ice's best days were pre-moving design to Montreal.

Obviously they wouldn't. My point is simply that the pros will still have access to that quality of steel. Obviously it won't be Step.

Facial? Not privy to the timeline of Mission ice design, but obviously there were some pretty great years all around. But I definitely preferred Mission roller pre 2009 to today's stuff.

I happen to disagree. Mission definitely had a few bad years, but the last few years before the buyout were great IMO. And I still think that Easton's sticks from 10 years ago are better than Bauer today (although I have not had a chance to try the adv yet, but still). The proof, I still play with stealth rs, cx and v9e. My apxs are gone, 1n is gone, 2x pros. Those sticks were trash, played ok but went soft in less than a season. You get the idea. Everyone had their preference and I'm definitely a bit salty that Bauer took away mine. They didn't even use Easton's tech afaik. And missions gloves were awesome.

FWIW, Easton and Mission, were already pretty well ruined when Bauer purchased them.

Sometimes the easiest way to outperform the competition is to buy them, shut them down, and take/use whatever IP you find valuable. This happens in nearly every industry.

Bauer could easily buy Tydan or any other aftermarket steel company yet they don't seem to have any interest. IMO buying STEP would have been a VERY smart move for them and they really missed out there. Same with buying Tydan.... But who knows what they have planned.

I will admit the new PulseTI blades are decent. The steel itself still isn't as nice as Tydan, STEP, Flare, or many others but it's tremendously better than the LS4/LS5 steel.

I also have to applaud them for the partnership with Prosharp helping to educate the general consumer on profiling.

I agree, if you have the money it's definitely the easiest way. Not the most respectable IMO. I'm not saying they're wrong or criminal, just that I'm not a fan of this type of stuff, and, by extension, I have become not a fan of Bauer. I think they should buy Tydan and source their steel that way, now that CCM bought STEP. And you're absolutely right, we don't know what's doing behind the scenes, they might very well be working on that. In fact, the lawsuit is very possibly part of the "negotiations," put the old gibash on them and then buy them for next to nothing.

And that's exactly my point. I haven't seen the pulseTI yet, but the fact that it's still not as nice as the aftermarket stuff is ridiculous. Are you telling me Bauer doesn't have the money to source good steel?

Look, most consumers don't have a clue about any of this and it doesn't really matter anyway. The pros will continue to get the products they like one way or another and everybody else will keep having fun in beer league with whatever steel is offered.
