  1. The new gens as6 pro, ghost and trigger 8 with softer blades are having very large issues and breaks. I haven’t seen it on the ft6 personally. I also speak with the manager at my local shop for trends on breaks when the new sticks always come out and the as6 has large returns already and the trigger 8. They didn’t get the ghost as we are Canada but I broke it quickly on the blade. I’ve had 4 ft6 pros and never broke them just sold for other sticks

Not to hash this from a month ago but just want to reiterate the reason those sticks (T5P & FT3P) we're very brittle and not durable - due to covid their manufacturers became a total shitshow, and they were not allowed to have any QC over their process. The manufacturing plant was allowing carbon to stay extended periods of times in a non-controlled environment, this caused them to have issues in the process. Finally they were able to go there and remedy the issue, which is why you've seen durability come back to what it should be.

T8P & FT6P have further refined balance points making them feel much lighter than the current generation. The FT6P is going to be an amazing selling stick this year.

The ft6 pro measures 364 grams uncut on a scale. So it doesn’t just feel lighter

That's what I am hoping for. It's more stressful owning a hockey store, performing sales forecasting, and booking than doing my engineering work. With engineering there are variables and through applied methodologies we can narrow those variables using data, analytics, adaptive machine learning, and other tools. Trying to forecast purchasing habits of retail customers when the manufacturers are in a state of disorder when it comes to release cycles, inventory issues, and a whole host of other variables that are entirely outside my control is beyond stressful.

The last couple years didn’t help supply chains are in turmoil

I think you would get more substantial progress with a 2-3 year release cycle as that gives you more data points and time to dial in a product. If you are releasing a product annually, you are in a constant state of scurryingto get something out the door. You need to release a product, gather data, determine what to enhance, fix, or modify, then source materials and tooling, build the product, test it, refine it, and finally ship it. IMO, 12 months is too small of a window.

In addition to owning the hockey store and training center, I am an engineer specifically for cloud computing and emerging technologies. I also dabble in mechanical and electrical engineering a well. The product lifecycles these manufacturers are doing are not sustainable long term. This is why the cost of equipment is going up, and the benefits are becoming less.

Totally appreciate the response especially with your back ground in both those areas.

perhaps a happy medium needs to be established!

I don’t think rewarding bad consumer behavior is a healthy thing. For example, Apple has convinced everyone that they need the new iPhone/Macbook the day it releases even though there are only incremental updates at best. Eventually, this always gets the best of companies when they are chasing innovation, just look at Intel and others who once owned the market and now are struggling to maintain their market share. Like anything, there is a law of diminishing returns. For hockey equipment, if you chase weight, you likely sacrifice durability and/or protection.

Innovation and progress always come from pushing limits and then dialing back and then tweaks and then big gains and problems. Linear progress is actually over. Progress is now more like 3-4 steps forward. 1-2 steps back in todays world. Something crazy happens, they try and improve it and actually take a few steps back sometimes. Going back to the original discussion of hockey ccm is famous for it. Trigger 5, ft3, as3 line is great example. Huge progress in terms of shot power release and weight. Those sticks are insane. First time I shot sticks in awhile that are far and behind anything ever made. But literally blew up mere hours into their use. So come the trigger 6, as4, ft5 and ccm dialed back a bit. Better durability but the recoil, shot power only marginally better than the trigger 4, ft2. As2. So improvement isn’t so much linear any more. Tweak and tweak. So you aren’t incorrect in saying that about apple. But as mentioned progress has to happened to make gains. Sometimes it’s big, sometimes small and sometimes something works amazing but something else is compromised by doing so and adjustments are made

Agreed. The apology was made, sincere, and accepted. I think we've all done this at one time or another. The double-edged sword that is the Internet. I think overall it's been a valuable discussion.

Ain’t that true. Sometimes to easy to just word vomit and not think how it sounds or came across. Saw a lot of interesting points on the thread.

oof. Maybe stick to equipment review videos. No reason for the cringey “but what about progress” 9th grade young republican soapbox speeches.

This board has been around a long time because people can disagree and have opinions without someone else flying off the handle and calling names and all that. Be polite.

I apologized if you read further. Seen it a lot on Reddit etc and got me. Should have been far more constructive and discussion based

I appreciate your response and for the record...I  also try just about everything that comes out...as you do.  I play in two leagues (at a high level) and coach, so I'm on ice just about 7 days a week.   With two artificial hips, I need to rotate skates with different flex profiles to avoid overuse injuries.  I use a lot of different gear out of necessity (at least some of it).

I'm not whining about this though (maybe it sounded that way).  I'm just saying...it's not necessarily a good idea...holistically.

Guess the challenge will always be these companies have mandates from the top for development, and throw in long manufacturing lead times and maybe they are ahead of the game sometimes. I’ll give you one, the trigger 7 showed up in stores but was supposed to be November. The trigger 6 was just released.

Maybe take a basic logic course cuz the ad hominem component doesn't show you in a particularly good light.  I'm not bitter, I'm making an observation.  It also sucks for any small LHS cuz they lose $ on inventory as they have to keep up with the cycle.   Also...it's hockey gear...not medical technology or transportation. And you could have made all of your points (which aren't without merit) without being  d-baggy about it.  But...I guess that's your choice.

These posts are tiresome and all over hockey forums Reddit etc. the world changes. It’s weird that people are so upset about it, but yes I was douchey apologize for that my bad should have worded it better. I should have made it for more constructive. I will say I really enjoy the releases because in the end they make it for consumers that like the latest and greatest and sometimes it’s junk and went no where.

but I still buy it because It’s aimed at me. But others like you don’t and it’s fine. But they won’t stop doing it that’s for sure !

  10. Is it your money? Your time? Your company? The world changes literally daily. Can you imagine if cars were still on ten year cycles? Or medication? Or food Products? Or clothes? Or electronics? Or anything anymore? Companies can’t leave products for two or three years anymore. Consumers get bored. This is the world luckily you don’t have to participate because last years stuff is always on sale or available. It’s silly to think companies can’t release and try new products yearly. This post is old school thinking and sounds bitter for no reason other than you can’t handle change like a baby boomer. It just doesn’t affect you if you don’t want it to

I just saw the twitter feed for this. Very interesting. I really liked the Dynasty HD1.

The HD1 was the hardest shooting stick ever imo. But they snapped almost instantly so they just need to tweak durability,  if they bring something like this back I’ll be all over it.

  12. The p30 and Bauer p14 were my fav curves as well and can’t be found retail anymore. It sucks because I would love to try the new top sticks with it. Instead I’ve settled onto the p28 and it’s “ok”

you can get a p30/14 from prostock sticks in customized and that’s about it

edit: forgot about Bauer you can build with p14 which is similar on my bauer

You’re right. I remember the elliptical shaft on the s17 being a problem for lots of people I knew around that time. I liked it though.

It is true the new sticks these days are much nicer so I guess it’s a trade off. I do have one more stick from prostockhockey I can use. So I’ll see how that goes.

S17 was a sick stick first stick where I was like this is insane! Then broke 3 shots later lol

I guess you’re correct but maybe it’s different now. Back in the day I used to get a pair of sticks at the beginning of each season and that would last me pretty much the whole season. Some sticks I had were the Bauer x60, one95, Easton s17, se16, Rs2 and the mako.

Edit: now that I think about it since I had 2 sticks per season each season was approximately 6 months, each stick would last about half a season meaning 3 months so I guess it’s in the ballpark of what you’d say is impressive.

One95 and x60 were durable sticks. The s17 heck no broke those within games.

I recently tested a stick ( the 1n ) which I remembered being my fav stick ever, and it’s only 6 years ish old and it doesn’t perform like the current top ends. Yes totally durable it lasted me almost a season as well, but the new sticks are just performances based. The low mid tier sticks perform like the 1n did but they just lack that performance. So it just depends what you need and want out of a stick either is available today. Something is just sacrificed. Durable sticks totally available they just aren’t sub 400 grams and lack the recoil shot power of top sticks. Power and performance is available they just aren’t gonna last a season etc

I don't think so for a $300 stick. Face it, the sticks have stopped getting lighter so the only improvements left are retaining performance and durability.

45 days? And you're only on the ice 4-6 times a week? You have zero expectations I guess.

all the top sticks, lxpro, ft4 pro, with that many ice times do not last. I can see a top stick lasting someone thats on the ice 1-2 times a week a few months for sure, but not someone taking a lot of shots and on the ice that much.

the top sticks are just not made for longevity, only performance. Soon as you drop to a mid price point durability improves. The pro stock stick, although not my gamer, is an excellent deal at its price point and performance, and to last as long as you said it did is unreal.

did you happen to radar the hyperlite and trigger? If so, did you notice a big difference in shot speed?

Yep, the trigger was I think 80-83mph  and the hyperlite 77-78 from what I can remember did it a few different times for different videos. Those just slappers though but still shows recoil shot power that the stick can generate.

Haha I fixed the autocorrect but looks like it autocorrected a 2nd time and I missed it. I watch your reviews on YouTube and I really enjoy them.

Haha yah bloody auto correct so agitating, appreciate that on the channel meeting more and more people that like it so I’m glad. Can’t go wrong with the Ribby! I just found the hyperlite lacked this generation same with fly lite. Hoping the next Vapor brings back the glory days

I have to agree with these comments. I get maybe 2 months out of top end sticks and I am on the ice 5 days weekly.

Same usually about 4-6 ice times in winter high season and my top sticks like ft4 pros last 45 days or so usually right after warranty lol
