  1. After covid made my current position pretty much obsolete since fans haven’t been able to attend sporting events, I accepted a job offer yesterday after being on the hunt since the summer basically.

it’s an entirely different industry to what I’ve been in, but it’s giving me a great pay and benefits package, and as someone who’s turning 30 this year, those things become more and more appealing hah

I took a break from playing from end of 2016-middle of 2019. Warrior had already stopped doing full custom, but Eagle was still doing it. At this point Eagle's custom options are fairly slim. The basic stuff of swapping cuffs or mixing designs from different models they can do, but the heavy customizations are not available anymore. I wear leather gloves or leather palms at the very least. At this point the only leather palms Eagle offers are Digital (not even sure if it's real Pittard's Digital) and Mustang, which is sueded. So the only option for leather palms is a custom repalm job, which goes for over 100 bucks. If I'm paying $250+ for gloves I'd like to get palms that I want. At this point I have 2 pairs of custom  L29s (From before my 2016 break) and a pair of black H34s, so I'm probably ok for a long time, but I kinda want a new pair of tan H34s like i used to have. I was gonna settle for the Cali Tan portofino but they wont even do goatskin palms. I'll probably eventually do it and just get digital pro palms so I can rip through them quickly and justify a repalm in either goat or kangaroo.

Anyway, my point was just that custom options have significantly decreased across the spectrum, although I'm not familiar with custom stick options.

Don’t want to sidetrack this thread too much but I just wanted to point out that Eagle does offer a  heavy customizable glove, right down to finger length, gusset height and custom add ons. I was in the process of ordering a pair just before Covid and was in direct contact with their factory so I’m not sure where you got that information.

They are still making one of if not the nicest custom gloves on the market.

In regards to leather, since it has been a banned material by the NHL for a few years now and companies as a whole have stopped using it, it’s understandable that it’s only still available in niche markets. Eagle do offer a leather palm overlay, not exactly the same but again, it’s not a commonly used material anymore.

I didn't see much, but could be I missed something in the search. I only saw a few warriors. Right, 85ish, round shaft is my preference, not particular about shaft shape, but prefer round if I have a choice.

I guess Sherwood doesn't make the pp9 or pp96 anymore? Does Sherwood still do customs or am I living in the past?

What are the most closed blade patterns available nowadays that are coming found?

Sherwood does do customs, as does True and CCM.

p88 and alternatives are still readily available on all top of the line sticks at retail. Most likely your best option.

  4. I also think a major factor is how “main stream” access to gear has become.

PSH is a prime example of someone that absolutely pillaged the pro stock gear market, which in the early 2000’s was one of the best parts of this site, finding out when gear sales were asking someone to try to grab you something etc etc

since everyone has pretty much the same access to gear available online now, it’s really made acquiring it less exciting, at least for me.

still love this community though and have been lucky enough to demo gear in the past and give reviews. It’s still a great place.

I think 390 is the sweet spot for me personally. Anything less starts to feel unbalanced and usually requires me to add some type of counterweight to balance it all out properly.

Cant imagine what you must have been doing for the better part of the last decade if 390g is the sweet spot.

Sticks that light have only been around for the last 3-4 years, what were you using before?

Who's going to fill that space? Retail with 3 curve options and a $350+ price point for the top end is nuts. Give us access to the 'team edition' sticks in the $150-$200 range that match the build quality and often exceed the durability of the retail, but make it easy to order instead of sifting through prostock websites with re-paints and questionable curve options.

I have never had an issue getting my hands on team issue sticks, whether it be online or at the LHS. CCM’s LK build sticks are great value. Recently found a Nexus team stick from this season with simple P92 in the name bar and so far it feels miles better than any previous Bauer team stick

  7. I still have durability concerns with the holder, same as when the Edge holder came out.

I don't see them being a big hit right away at retail. Wouldn't expect many apart from people in this thread to change out the holders on their Bauer's or CCM's.

How the equipment guys use them, at least here it hasn't been enough to sway many guys.

I look forward to what their approach is once they go live.

The idea is to have that something to strive for. Sure, the NBA would like the WNBA to be a money maker but there are other perks for supporting it. Having the WNBA gives young girls something to look up towards and can help to drive female participation and interest in the sport as a whole. That increased interest for the sport as a whole leads to increased viewership, ticket sales, and merchandising opportunities. Why wouldn't the NHL want to make that investment in their product?

I can't say for sure if we'd ever see a fully self-sustaining WNBA or WNHL, but then, most minor league hockey teams can't survive without assistance from the big club.

And I'm all for this as well, but even WNBA players are complaining that even while the NBA loses money by giving them a platform they want more.

I sense a similar sentiment here in that women's hockey wants the NHL to eventually step up and build a league, but it has to be on their terms, which doesnt entirely make sense to me.

  9. while I agree that neither women's league has a sparkling track record in how their leagues are run, there is no leverage in threatening a boycott or strike because not enough people give a shit about the sport.

I have the upmost respect for anybody trying to make a living playing sports in the grinder leagues whether Male or female, but them demanding to be paid or supported when they offer next to nothing in terms of collateral is probably the main deterrent in this situation.

The NBA loses millions trying to support the WNBA every year, I cant blame the NHL for waiting to see how this plays out because the return isnt there for them.

They're asking for someone to pay their way when at this point in time the product cant even pay for itself, I'm not sure who would consider that a viable investment right now.

  10. Once again though, your retailer should be doing all this.

When I was in the shop I had one pair get sent back. I took down every detail of what the issues were and was lucky enough that the size of the skate allowed me to try it on to feel first hand what he was feeling to get a better idea. Obviously this wont always be the case.

From there I contacted True, explaining the issues, sent them pictures and discussed what the options were in terms of adjustments/having them remade.

This info was directly translated to the customer and his dad (JR player from east coast, dad wasnt in town but was paying) and then discussed what we were trying, a rough timeline and an overall idea of where we were in the process. When I spoke with True I received a name to ask for that would be able to give me updates. I had updates for the customer about every 2 days until completion.

Anybody that is doing this on their own without a shops help, you're either doing it wrong or your shop isnt doing their part. Of course True doesn't want to deal with each customer on an individual basis. Our relationship and business was steady enough with them that they could update me with everything we had on order on a weekly basis so I could update our customers.

Sorry for the vent. People on here seem extremely misconstrued on the process of getting these made and I think are not holding their LHS responsible for their poor customer service and or inexperience/laziness in the process.
