  1. New Shinguards, nothing exciting. First new pair in like 6 years, my old Jofas finally kicked the bucket.

Cobra, how are the new Reebok shins? I'll be looking at them at the Hockeyworld sale tomorrow, but an opinion from someone who owns a pair would be nice.

Unfortunately I have not been able to skate in them yet...i will Monday. Coming from my old ones they feel like a million bucks, very comfy.

Those shinnies are nice. Was thinking about getting them too but I heard they are fairly wide throughout. Is that true? If so it might not be the best fit for me as I have thin legs...

Eh, they are a tad wide...but not as wide as they look. If you have ever worn Jofa shin pads of any sort, they are comparable to that. They are a little bit wider than the Eastons, Warriors, and Bauers I tried on though.

Thanks for the info. I'll def try them on next time at my LHS. The look pretty sweet

  3. Picked these up a couple weeks back, took a while to find them at the right size/price.

    Jofa 9144 Pro

I'm loving the Jofa elbow pads. How similar are the new Reebok ones considering they say they are modeled after the Jofa's?

Also, any way to find those under $40-$50 bucks???

  4. Yeep that's the hockey monkey one. I'm pretty sure the blade is different. It doesn't have the thick boxy weave, and it's a little thicker than what i was expecting. It looks almost like my one95 blade.

It continues all the way up the shaft. Off the top of my head I always thought XXXX's were woven differently.

That does look like a mission blade weave, very similar to one that I have, but would they actually put that onto a NB vapor?

  5. Pro stock Boulerice. Feels alot different than the retail XXXX's. Almost like it's half way between the stick um and no grip versions. I like it alot.

Nice one. Is that the one from hockeymonkey pro stock? Was thinking about ordering it. Aside from the grip did you notice any other difference vs the retail model?

  6. Thanks! And didn't realize they used the same material as Air Jordan's. Pretty cool :D What did you mean that they are off of the Daoust mold?

I think he means that they used the last/shape of the discontinued Daoust skates (the ones Gretz wore for years) as a basis for the design of the first series of nike boots.

Thanks for that. I missed what he meant there :D

  7. awesome skates.....off Daoust mold.....love how they used Air Jordan XIII reflective material

Thanks! And didn't realize they used the same material as Air Jordan's. Pretty cool :D What did you mean that they are off of the Daoust mold?

I take it they aren't really purple then?

And no they're not even close to purple. That picture does have a slight hue to it, but in person they are black and when they reflect light they glisten/shine.

I'm actually selling mine too if anyone is interested. Obviously I don't play ice considering the skates are in like new condition. Size 11.5D PM me if interested!

  8. Maybe they are, but if remember correctly, Nike made a bunch of skates that looked like that, and the easiest way to tell if they were zoom air elites were by the extra stitching on the boot and solid white custom +'s like on mine.

Your right about there being a bunch of similar ones. Yours are the updated ones to mine. And the cheaper ones that look similar which you are referring to were made in Malaysia or China. The higher end ones were made in Canada. Otherwise they are somewhat hard to differentiate. Also the higher end ones had Zoom Air gel packs in the ankles where the cheaper ones were regular stuffing type padding.

How heavy are they? Ive heard they were bricks, but i always wanted a pair.

In terms of weight, I wouldn't call them bricks, but they are heavier than current Vapors and such. The best comparison I could give you is that they are a bit lighter than a high end roller hockey skate...

  9. those were a lower spec version of the ones fedorov wore. the zoom air elites were the ones he used, like these beauties:

I'm almost positive mine are the zoom air elites. I believe they came out one year prior to the ones you have pictured...

  10. One issue my buddies and I have had to put up lately is drunk guys. Now im not against drinking but its frustrating when you got the goofy drunk trying to man the point and turning the puck over constantly. This is annoying but not as bad as the Angry drunk, this guy is a really good player but he still feels the need to tune up all of us losers at the drop in session. He rocks a tinted visor (not implying anything...) and he just tries to make a fool of all us guys (who are beginners) especially my buddy who was playing goal. he only played 3 times but this guy just kept deking him out and laughing at him.

if you are good, encourage the not so good guys and dont try to make them look like fools. make a legit play but don't do something you wouldnt normally do.

Defintely sucks to have to play with anyone like that. What I've actually noticed is that when I was starting to get back into playin (roller) I was going to open sessions and there were always a few guys like you mentioned above. Thought they were the sheet and so good. As I started getting better and playing for a few teams now, I ran across these guys in real games, and they were all terrible!!! Its so funny to see them during a real game when they can't do anything right but when they are open they act like they own the place and do all these moves. Not saying I'm great or anything but goes to show you that these show-boaters at open and pick up sessions may act like they do because they really suck during real games. Don't get me wrong though, i hate them nonetheless
