Best bands that you're not listening to.

Recommended Posts

Pinback, Minus The Bear, Metric, The Arcade Fire, Kaiser Chiefs, Controller.Controller, Shout Out Out Out Out, Wintersleep, The New Pornographers, Feist, Despistado, Whitey Houston, Tegan & Sara

I know metric and arcade fire and the pornographers are getting big (especially metric) but I liked metric before they were on the radio and bigger, so nyah.

I don't have alot on the computer in terms of newer stuff I like so this thread is very helpful. I like the Gym Class heroes that Mack mentioned.

One "underground" band I listed to is Elliott Brood. It's labelled as "death country", but it's essentially Alternative with a Banjo mostly. It's a little weird, but not bad and you get used to them. Cadillac Dust is their best song and easiest to use to get into their music.

Also, I'm listening to a bit of Death From Above 1979, anyone know of some bands with a similar sound?

I've been listening to a guy that should have a record deal...but doesn't. It's rootsy-country-folk...very John Prine-esque (ask your parents).

Jesse Reid (www.jessereid.com) Great writer....

Then, there is my brother Adam. (myspace.com/adambazinet). Another folky guy...probably not the cup of tea of most on here...but I'll put them out there anyway.

And to the guy who said OAR..."Crazy Game of Poker" is waaaaaay Cool.

Crazy Game of Poker is good, a local cover band plays that mixed with No Woman No Cry and its awesome. You should also listen to Heard the World and Hey Girl, great songs.

Someone said Catch 22, which of the bands listed did they turn into? I used to listen to them all the time.

I haven't listened to anything they've recently put out, but I used to love Juliana Theory. And they're broken up now, but Dispatch was a great band. I'd also recommend G.Love and Special Sauce, and if you like Jack Johnson at all, Donovan Frankenreiter.

I used to rock out to catch 22 all the time.. looked like a damn fool in my car.

When they come for me, I'll be sitting at my desk with a gun in my hand wearing a bullet-proof vest. Singin' "My My My how the time does fly when you know you're gonna die by the end of the night!".

I'm just not a fan of them. Not sure if they've been added but I'll toss in Kasabian, Wilco, Saves The Day, Louis XIV, Editors and will definitely back-up whoever listed the Juliana Theory.

I actually went to EdgeFest a couple years ago just to see the Juliana Theory. They were, by far, the best set of the show. I'm kinda surprised - I always thought they would eventually hit it big - or at least become a little more mainstream than they are now. Great group.

Which one? Blue October or Kaiser Chiefs?

"I Predict a Riot" and "Oh My God" would be two classics in my book! Guess its different tastes eh?

And may I ask, what are the little phrases under your avatar? Yours is "ill playa" and I noticed JR had one too. What are those and can users like us have them?

Those were two good songs but they got overplayed where I was at and I didn't like any of the other songs.

They're just little things we can put on to goof. Generally we only put dubious titles under someone's avatar when they've earned it.
