2015-16 Gear Sightings

Toews is wearing some straps instead of sock tape, quick google turned up nothing. Anyone seen this before?

Maybe he's talking to Panarin about it. Artemy used to do that in games.

It also used to be more common back in the Soviet days.

It's still pretty common in the KHL. Precisely as a cost saving measure I imagine, but also because it works. It holds nice and strong and it's nice to be able to adjust in two seconds as well. What Toews has looks like the classic straps that came with Jofa shins. Just the other day I saw a KHL guy with a CCM set.

That's just a Jofa shin guard strap. They come with the shin pads, as far as I know... He's just using the straps.

I have a few pairs of them from pads over the years. I have no idea how to upload photos...

Here's a few links to a google image search photo with the strap on the pad of the shin guard...

Hope that helped.

It looks like Jake Virtanen goes tongues out but puts his socks over the tongue. I can't be too sure. Maybe he tapes them to his shins also? I noticed this looking at pics. Any insight?

Not a gear sighting but something I noticed (and I'm probably the only one that finds it interesting because I am a 'sneakerhead'); Crosby wearing Under Armour shoes.

I wonder when his adidas deal officially starts. Still a strange picture as he would technically be contractually obligated to wear Reebok (if that contract was all encompassing ie on and off ice) until the adidas contract kicks in.

It's most likely just a Team Issued instance instead of personal preference thing. Since the background player is also wearing them.

Makes sense (and I just noticed that the UA wordmark on the toe is blacked out).

In years past the Canucks have had team issued apparel with Nike, Under Armour and now Lululemon and Alex Burrows always wore Warrior shoes.

wow what a find! I had a pair Salming gloves back in the day and loved them.

It even says "Heavy Metal" right on it.

I honestly thought it was some sort of music reference..wouldn't have ever guessed it was a steel stick!!

Hamhuis using a retail spec Base Nasty stick

I don't blame him, it's a slick stick and the guys over at Base have been really touting their product around the city of late.
