Everything else that makes these skates great, totally outweighs the slightly heavier boot. It's not even like these are heavy, just a touch heavier than the latest and greatest from Bauer.

IMO if weight is the biggest factor here, you're totally missing the point of VH's.

I just ordered VH skates yesterday. After research and my fitting, I'm sure they'll be amazing. But, did I just order outdated skates? VH just updated their line in September 2015.

Just curious because I have not spoken to the office how many guys in VH in he second round? Statsny Ott Steen Elliot Palvelski?? Who else....

No as it is new to all of us we are still doing fittings the same way as always along with the new form that is being worked on to be released later on this summer for everyone else. BUT once perfected you guys will LOVE this!

In the second round: a couple other Sharks: Tierney, Karlsson, Wingels, Dillon; one Isle: Hickey; some more Blues: Paajarvi (if he gets in the lineup), Schwartz; one Penguin: Cole.

Nah, come on, it's old song - where did you figure out that the weight is bigger factor for me?

The question is why my current VHs are heavier more than 150g than previous ones (options are mentioned above) and how to get next one with adequate weight

I assume the plastic toe cover is at least part of the culprit. Not sure how much.

Maybe the extra protection in the tongue contributes a bit as well...maybe 10-20g, but add 10-20 here, there, a couple other places, and soon you're up 100g total.

I guess something like that...

BTW, I've ordered it with tan clarion liner

As far as I can see on they web site - there is an option to choose black wick liner...

Anybody ordered this? Any feedbacks?

Starting to get a little frustrated.

Anyone who read my post a couple pages back understands why but I'll go over it again. So my left skate is perfect, but I'm getting poor heel lock on my right skate. I got them in August 2015 and the right heel lock seemed OK. Maybe I was blinded how I could finally skate with no pain, I don't know. I was skating in Vapors prior and then about a year or so in Supremes. Vapors gave me Haglunds but I did like the heel lock on them.

My right skate is shifting around a little too much for my liking and slipping when I'm taking strides and pivoting.  I've had so much problems with my feet that my bony ankles seemed minor but now that most of them (besides pronation, which I have help with) are fixed I'm noticing this a lot more. My right ankle is a lot more bony than my left and even in shoes, I'm noticing my heel lock on my right foot is poor. I have to really crank down my laces (shoes and skates) to get my heel to lock properly and this doesn't do a very good job. I've tried multiple clamps of different sizes when baking but the "pads" do not sit flat on my skate. As in part of them touch, but half the pad hangs off my skate since it's not a flat surface.

What do you all recommend I do? I emailed Rob and while I don't think I can order just a right skate with a smaller heel (that's not to count I already spent $900 total on these skates) I am not seeing a lot of options. I looked up the duct tape method that oldtrainerguy posted about but I can't find it on YouTube.

I have it. Rob recommends it for those who sweat a lot (which I do), so that it keeps the foot locked in.

Try this method instead of baking on the foot (you'll be using a heat gun and clamp without the foot in the boot):

This was actually what I was going to do next, but the clamp "pads" won't sit flat on the heel of the skate. Like they pinch the skate and then try and fall off? The smaller clamp was worse

Looking from over top the skate the heel does get tighter as the clamp pushes in, but would this fix the problem I'm having? Seems like it would just have a better wrap higher up the heel but not a great lock down below?

If there's north-south movement in the heel, then place something underneath the insole to raise the heel up in the pocket, so that the foot has less room to move... or, reversely, if the heel feels like it's sitting above the pocket, then take the red insole out, so the foot can sit lower. If there's east-west movement, using the heating method above will decrease the amount of space for the ankle to roll in or out OR you can use some Stable26 socks which will fill east-west volume.

The only time I've personally had poor ankle lock in skates has been when the skate was too large lengthwise for my foot... allowing the foot to move forward and for the ankle to then slide out of the heel pocket.

Another thing you can try is... loop locking or adding lace locks on the 4th eyelet from the top.

Your heel lock was most probably ok when you first got the skates but if you haven't had the skates tuned to your foot to address pronation then you will eventually end up in the situation you are now in. Because you pronate, your foot rolls in the boot as you skate. Maybe only a little at first with new skates but over time, as the foot continues to lever away at the inside ankle area of the boot, the boot eventually starts to give way and open up and now your heel lock starts to disappear.

You can clamp the boot, I've done it to mine a number of times. You need clamps that have swivel heads on them and you want to clamp just under the ankle bone. Ideally you do what I did and that is to make a mold of your foot (I used plaster of paris and made it slightly smaller than my foot in width) and then when you clamp you use this inside of the boot and clamp against it hard. And also continue to use it every time you aren't skating so it helps the boot to hold its shape over time.

As to fixing the pronation going forward, this either requires specialist help (orthotics and blade alignment) or some out of the box thinking (I have purchased a pair of skates that are extra wide, stripped the lining out and am making custom inner shells using gel pads and memory foam that address blade alignment and heel lock and fit).

I found the clamp method worked well but I had to hold the clamp down into the right spot while heated otherwise it slipped off.

Other that sending the skates back for extra padding, have you tried these http://stable26.com/ ? I thought they were great when I used them with old skates.

I did try the Stable 26 but I was a size too large. I'll probably try and order a smaller pair if all else fails. Rather have a permanent solution though than depend on something that may not be around in a couple years/be designed differently (speculation).

I'm going to get another clamp tomorrow, the same one that Scott uses in the video on YouTube, and test it on an old skate with a heat gun. Did you use the clamp while having them baked or did you use that method? It's only my right VH skate so I suppose I can just bake it if need be, or hit it with a heat gun. Whichever works best for the final product

If everyone thought the fit of VH skates was good before,...........Just wait till you see whats coming. If you live in Toronto watch Breakfast Television on Wednesday morning.

As mentioned, I am Halifax/Bedford Nova Scotia. I justc brought up the full content if today's BT, but see nothing relating to any topics such as the VH skates at all! What am I missing?

Also, with my hockey just over should I wait for the Fall to order? I am afraid that the price will go up or perhaps VH will stop selling them to the public if they have great success with the pros. I also will have arthroscopy on my right shoulder soon, but with the medical system that could be again the Fall or next year!

Oh, and I highly doubt VH would stop selling to the general public. They're making money selling the skates so why would they shut that off? If there are changes coming over the summer and you don't need skates until the Fall then I'd definitely wait to order them if I was in your position.

I held the clamp on when the skates came out of the oven and were laced up but still very malleable

You quoted the answer...otg said WED morning. Today is Tuesday.

OK, OK, let's stop the laughing now! Sorry guys, between out second grandchild being born and the fact that I almost landed in Fort McMurray as an insurance adjuster this past few days has been like a blur. It was so close to working there Rob gave me the name of one of their fitters not far away and actually had emails back and forth. It now does not look like I will be going, but I guess I was still in hyper mode!

I will try tomorrow, my apologies.  Alan

It happens. Not a big deal. Congrats on the new grandchild. If the new development is big it makes sense to wait, but even if it isn't I think it makes sense to wait if you don't need the skates right away because then the start of your warranty will be later that way (plus you can be earning interest in the cash in the meantime). I'd order in the late summer/early fall if you're not going to start using them until the fall/winter season.

Thanks for the comments, I think I will wait as I am still wondering if I should have a few mods made anyway. This will give me much more time.
