What's so confusing? "Thanks to construction process updates, CCM made this scary powerful AS2 Pro a featherlight 410 grams (in senior). Already a standout from other elite mid-kick sticks, the higher balance point creates the feeling that the stick weighs around 400 grams without sacrificing its rugged strength."

They changed their naming pattern to match what Bauer is doing. Model Name Pro is the top tier, Model Name is the 2nd tier.

AS2 is now the tier that the 9080 was, the same way that the 2S is what the 190 was.  AS2 Pro and 2S Pro are their respective top tier model.

I’m curious to see if Warrior will follow suit, their “pro” label is currently the 2nd tier.

IMO the designation of Pro should always be the top tier.

Ya that makes the most sense, but Warrior has been doing it for consistently longer with calling the number 2 stick "pro." Even Bauer has messed  up as the Pro in the Vapor line is  the second from the top.

Ok, I see time to buy AS2Pro.

I would say the term "better" is subjective. The AS2 might not be as light but could be built better or perform better than the AS1. I am not 100% sure though as I don't use the CCM Tacks line of sticks. Overall, the AS2 Pro is the new top of the line stick.

The confusing part is CCM decided to change their naming convention so they have 0 consistency.

That's like every company ever...lol.  However, from what I understand, marketing research shows that this is actually an effective thing in selling new product.  Psychologically, makes the consumer feel like they're getting a fresh new product with more bells & whistles, vs the next-gen product that, usually, it actually is.

On a related note - has the P30 been discontinued or is it in the process of being phased out? It’s on the FT2 but not the AS2 pro.

It certainly seems to be less common. I thought CCM had a good thing going with the P30 to differentiate from Bauer, but instead after just a short time floating the P30 in the market they seem to have gone the opposite direction and are now copying Bauer entirely with the P88 and the other max height trend. I think the P40, P46, P19 and P30 all had their following and now they're all missing or disappearing at retail. They just kept changing things so quick the last 2-3 years - how can you build up a base of users that way?

It's sad that between Bauer and CCM now it seems it's a 3 pattern market at retail. If you're not a P29/P92, P88 or P28 guy, you're looking for custom or prostock. Which sucks because for custom it's $$$ and for prostock it can be hard to know exactly what you're getting with respect to the build and curve depending on where it came from.

Usually companies don't release multiple products within a few months of each other with the opposite naming conventions. Plus, swapping Pro from the 2nd tier price point to the top tier is confusing people more than feeling like they are getting something fresh.
