    Happy 10th Anniversary, MSH!

For the last few days, I was thinking about what I was going to say today. So, I decided to look at some of the very first posts on MSH for a bit of inspiration. We started laying down the groundwork for MSH back on 3/2/2004, by hosting it on Dave’s server in Germany. By 3/10 the modsquadhockey.com domain was bought, and we continued to work in the shadows to get it working. On 3/19 we invited some of our Senior Members to join up to test some bugs, and then around 3:30am on 3/20 we went live (we definitely kept some long hours to get it to work.) After that, the floodgates opened – which back then was quite a big deal, as it wasn’t as if we could just announce it on Facebook and Twitter because Facebook was launched a month prior and Twitter hadn’t been invented yet. Let’s be honest; a lot of forums don’t survive this long – they run out of content, social media makes them irrelevant, arguments within the member base, or the admins stop caring – but we’ve been able to stay relevant and important in our field for TEN YEARS. We’ve built something more than just a hockey equipment information resource – it’s truly a community, and in a lot of cases, a family. Through our forum posts and our events (our Winterfest will also celebrate its 10th anniversary this year as well) we’ve built relationships with people all over the world that go beyond a keyboard. And that’s what I’m proudest of when it comes to MSH. Brian McDonald (mcdougalfaschnitzer) created a commemorative logo to honor MSH’s anniversary. I pitched the idea to him over breakfast after last year’s Winterfest. The 10 rings signify each year. We will have merchandise with the MSHX logo as well as be on both SummerJam and Winterfest jerseys as a patch. So, thank you for participating in this little thing we’ve created here. It’s impacted my life in so many ways, and for that, I thank you all.
