Angora Cat 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2009 Hey everyone, I just installed a new set of BSB Abec 7 bearings in my skates, and after skating with them for one game, the wheels still aren't spinning well (3-4 revolutions by hand). Since they're grease-packed bearings, I understand that they need some time to break in. Something that annoys me is that the factory lube on the bearings attracted a lot of dirt/debris after one skate and I can already hear grinding in the bearing. So, how long does it usually take for grease-packed bearings to break in? Also, if I can already hear grinding/dirt after 1 use, should I go ahead and clean them out? Thanks.
Joel12 0 Report post Posted April 25, 2009 I was under the impression that ABEC rated bearings were all oil lubed and Swiss bearings are the grease packed ones.

fatwabbit 93 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Are all the wheels having the same problem? i didnt realise that there would be a break in period... all my bearings just sping freely out of the box, unless the chassis is causing the wheels from moving freely. Also, did you use spacers on your wheels? Without the spacers, the bearings might get compressed when you tighten the axle, causing them to get clamped down. The spacers prevent that from happening and keep the clamping from happening. Sghockey21 1 Report post Posted April 26, 2009 Grease probably takes alittle longer to break in. For me I usually feel that the bearings are broken in after 3-4 skating sessions.
