I've watched alot of hockey and I'm pretty sure I've only seen players slash with their sticks.

What post are you referring to?

I am glad somebody pointed out the exact rule.....If you consider what it takes to get into position when chasing down someone on a rush, it means you have to skate like hell to catch up enough to get a stick check on them...hence the game becomes faster and more free wheeling....if they allow the stick to be used to impede a skater's progress..it should always be called.

Anytime a two handed slash on a stick is called it is usually because it was hard enough to create an injury should the offending player have missed the stick, and falls into the category of "using the stick as a weapon"..hence the call.

Because so much inline hockey is not "full contact", I actually see more illegal hooking in that version of the game than ice hockey.

Call the hooks all the time....it will be painfull for a while, but if done consistently, it will eventually change the game and make it far more exciting....as long as "clutching/grabbing interference" is called equally. Make the players skate and skate and skate....and depend on body position to defend....then we will get much more of the thrill back into the game.

Once body position becomes the major defensive parameter....physical size and strength will not be completely neutralized, but will become less of a selection criteria for choosing players.

When hits are made under these conditions, they will be better and more exciting as well. Misses too.
