Contouring in Toronto

Recommended Posts

I'm thinking about having my skates contoured/profiled for the first time. Can anyone recommend a good place to go in the Toronto area ? I have been getting my sharps done at Just Hockey on Don Mills, there's one guy there who does a nice job, the rest have been hit-and-miss for me, but I'm kind of sick of the attitude they throw around there. My understanding is that this is often an iterative process, that I might need to go back for fine-tuning, so I'm looking for someone at a shop that is reliably good, but that especially is patient enough to work with a newbie.

Also, if I go in for more fine-tuning, will I be paying for another profiling, will I be paying the cost of a sharpening, or will adjustments be free until we get things perfect ? The guy at Just Hockey (whose sharpenings I like) told me that he "might" do an adjustment or two after the initial profiling, each at the cost of a sharpening, but that he "would not be into doing anything more". Now I'm sure that some people could get carried away, so is this a reasonable position or should I look for someone else ?

What about searching it up on the web? Or in the yellow pages for LHS around you. Then you can goto them and get info? Just a thought.

Sogaduch works at Just Hockey, PM him.

I have the same problem with the rest of their employees, though...

Yeah, I'm just really gun-shy with who sharpens my skates. I've probably had 5 different guys at Just Hockey do my skates, one guy does a good job, one does an OK job, but I felt like the others were so-so or worse. Unfortunately the guy who does the good job has the most attitude of all of them. A few other places, as soon as I hit the ice after the sharp I could tell they did a lousy job. Another time, it looked like they did a goalie sharpening, the worst part was it was just on one skate. Unfortunately, the times I have the bad sharpenings always seem to be when I'm in a rush before a game.

If somebody would tell me that so-and-so does a really good job, I'd go out of my way to give them my business.

Yea, I'm moving back to Toronto to go to school so hopefully I can find a reliable guy to get my skates done. I'm in Aurora, so going to just hockey without a car and have to mooch a ride (being 13 and driving myself is out of the question) and getting there, getting a dirty sharpening and leaving is a ridiculous hassle. But that being said I have to get sogaduch to do my G-35's when I get there and see how it goes ;)

what guy gives you attitude if you dont mind me asking? if you see mike the bald guy hes very good to talk too and hes also understanding. its hard for us to judge what a person wants when the person asking for it isnt very clear and were all human beings and we cant read a persons mind. not trying to be rude but for us to be understanding may also ask for the consumer to be understanding so both sides can get an understanding about what is too be done. its like going into a snowboard shop and asking questions about boards and not knowing whats good or not. if you have a problem with some of our guys then speak up, let us know that way we can improve upon it and make your next visit a better one.
