Marchment on a Tryout

Recommended Posts

Sorry guys, I can't find a sports site with a link. This looks like an CP story.

Anyways...I know not everyone is a Bryan Marchment fan, but wouldn't you say he deserves a little better than a tryout?

He's proven he can play...he's not overly injured (is he?) Why doesn't he have a contract (with the Leafs or elsewhere)?

Thoughts?

i believe he doesn't have a contract because his style of play isn't going to fit into the new style of nhl (this is all based on the belief that the refs will actually call stuff). he doesn't bring much to the game other than agitating and cheap shots.

Given Pilar's condition, I don't think signing him would be a bad move at all, especially if it was for the minimum. He isn't great, but he has a lot of NHL experience and can play decent in his own end.

Marchment got little to no ice-time last year in the playoffs. Quinn wants Belak on D and Cola will fill-in full time this year.

Right now the D stands as

McCabe - Kaberle

Klee - Khavanov

Cola - Berg

Belak - Brown

Marhcment doesn't really fit in. He couldn't hack it last year and depth wise, he can't knock-out many of those guys. Belak/Brown can both fight/hit which fills his role. He was a little slow and awkward last year. This is why its a try-out. Pilar is still in the wings when he becomes healthy.
