Update on HE950's

Recommended Posts

I got these skates recently and have just two issues that I think might be taken care of by the Mission warranty, but I wanted to know if anyone had the same problems and what Mission offered to do. I don't want to send the whole skate back or anything.

Issue #1: Wheels are losing sizable pieces of material, making me lose grip and fall on tight turns. (see photo)

Issue #2: I can't get one of the damn axles off, and my LHS can't either!

Your help is appreciated!

1. Wheels - Contact Shayne at Factory hockey...They will replace your wheels.

2. Axle - What can't you get out, the axle or the bolt? If you can get off the square head bolt, then you can get out the axle. Insert a small punch/awl and take a hammer and give it a nice little smack. This should loosen it up for you.

i think we need a another pic of your wheels at a different angle.. from that pic it looks like just normal wear.. we all know factor wheels are not very good so that grip problem could be just that.

Both axle and bolt are stuck like no other. It would be like trying to take the sword out of the stone on this one. If I try to tap or twist any harder I am afraid I will damage the chassis or bearing. My LHS tried the same.

Dave.

First of all Missions customer service is TOP NOTCH.....if there is a problem with the skate itself, they WILL resolve it....I just dont understand, is the square side of the bolt spinning when you try to spin the hex key side counter clockwise? So it must be stuck closed? How long have you had the skates? Were you skating in a water logged area that could have rusted the axles together? As for the wheels.....factory wheels suck, I myself went through three pairs of 950's and EVERY time I chunked at least 2 wheels...there was one incident where I cut right and then left and chunked the front wheels on both of the skates in that same play....from my experiences...as of a month and a half ago I swore up and down by gripper milleniums, then I switched to rink rats and I dont think that I will ever change wheels ever again....even though factory may send you a pair of new wheels this time, it wont help becayse they still suck alot, do yourself a favor, buy rink rat wheels...and you wonder why mission switched after last year? I think the writing is on the wall.

p.s. Justin is there an unofficial weight on the HEX-1 stick?

No movement on the bolt or the hex key... had them two weeks. I have extra wheels (dynasty's), but right now I'm kind of fed up with the performance of the wheels. When I pay for top of the line skates I am not looking for compromise. If all of the Factory wheels are flawed then perhaps Mission will replace my wheels with the newer model Rink Rats on their 06 line. I would be okay with that. Point taken but I want the performance I paid for.

The HYPER Formula G Pink is an awesome wheel. Use it and you will love it. I definitely like it better than the Rink Rats, which are good but do not last as long as the Hyper. The first Rink Rats lasted forever and were just the best, but the hub problem was a pain. The next generation was good but no way as good as the first ones we tried.

Okay, I got my skates packed up and ready to go and got the Wicked Lights out to skate on today.

All I can say is: night and day. I have this pair outfitted with ABEC 7's and red Dynasty wheels (over a year old) and they aren't quite as fast at top speeds but they turn, stop, and handle soooo much better. I flew in for a deke on the goalie and tried to stop... I literally turned and spun a 180 in the air, landed backwards and almost fell over, these wheels perform that much better...

It might not be just that the damn Factory wheels have chunked out, but I really feel more support in the same size WL. I don't feel any power in my stride like I do in the WL on the 950's... I really think its the boot stiffness and clarino liner that locks my foot in and allows me to power through my strides. I dunno I've skated on more Mission's than some dealers, maybe I picked up something.

Anyways, Justin is the man and is going to try to get the axle and bolt off... my LHS and I say godspeed!

Also I talked to Shayne and although I have no comment on the situation right now, things are not working out. Perhaps you can switch out the wheels with a comparable model that won't chunk Justin... I'm a high performance skater, even though I'm not heavy I can tear these low end pink LE Hyper wheels to shreds.

Why should Mission replace wheels that they dont even make? Sure Mission signed on with Factory to have the wheels on they're skates. But Factory makes the wheels, and should deal with the problem, not Mission. Thats like going into a car dealership, and demanding they replace you're tires with a new(er) version because you got a flat.

Shayne sent me 2 sets of wheels(1 set Zrated, 1 set Halo) because, i too, had the same problem as you. If he sends you replacements, use them 'til they turn to crap, then move on. No point in using something that doesnt work for you.

Performance does not equal durability. You want the lightest skates out there? You're going to have to sacrifice other things...

Right, you went to Shayne and he sent you two replacement sets (Z-Rated = a suitable replacement). I talked to Shayne and got a low end Hyper wheel that retails $4 less per; not a suitable replacement.

With Mission's notoriously effective customer service I would think asking for a replacement from Mission while I try to work things out with Shayne is definitely worth a shot.

So contact him and tell explain you're situation to him. Let him know you're not happy with the Formula G's that were given to you. If he doesnt agree, i'll look my unused replacement set of Z-Rateds , and sent you them myself.

I would just take another set of Dynasty red's and I'd be happy, lol. Yes, the exact same set of wheels are fine, but aren't most of the Z wheels chunking? I just want to make sure I don't go through the same ish again...

Yes, alot of the Z wheels chunked out. Factory had a problem much like labeda is having now with the genesis. The wheels that came with the original skates had messed up wheels. Most proshops sent back the skates so they could get replacement wheels. Same thing with the HE750s. I do know the replacement wheels dont have the same case as the originial Z's.. this is what the owner of a local proshop told me
