lowering graf shoulders?

I got a new pair of graf 705 shoulder pads about a week ago, and the caps are small but it seems like they stay high up. I want to lower them but it seems like theres no way to do that unless I cut the straps, but then they wont last too long. Will they go down by breaking them in? Any ideas guys, thanks.
