Help Taking Chassis off skates.....

Recommended Posts

I need to get a chassis off some old skates...Anyone know how to get the rivets out?...Or do you have to take them to a shop to get one off, like a special tool is needed...I wanna do it the easiest way without messing the frame up to bad....Thanks

I can see knocking the rivets out being pretty easy....but the copper ones look a little tricky.

You can wedge a screw diver in on the brass ones on the out side and wedge the little washer off.

The easiest way is to get a long punch of the right size and give them a quick rap. The punch must be small enough to let the spread rivets pull through the opening, where those rivets are used, and with the copper rivets you can punch right through the center of the disk on the inside of the boot, it will break and let the long portion slide out. Little elbow grease, a few choice words and your done.

The see if you can get an RMS system to mount the new ones..easier to do..will need slightly larger holes however than the rivets.
